Mt. Biking: Llandegla Wind Direction: Wind Stength: Surf / Sea State: Air Temperature: 24 Sea Temperature: Weather: Beautiful! Max Speed: Distance Covered:
Llandegla black route - so good I rode it twice!
Plans of mice & men:
Originally planning a Peak District ride - neither Rich nor Craig could
make it so was relieved when wind indicated for Rhosneigr as I was free to
go there instead.
But yesterday the forecast went a bit vague & the mtb was out of the garage
winking at me & saying: 'Come on Big Boy, you know you want to ride me'. I
took the bait & re-thought The Peak - some walking & carrying would be
involved & with my still recuperating knee I thought the total ridability
of a trail centre a better bet so with north Wales already seeded in my
mind decided to check out Llandegla as it's one I've never been to - only
thing was the longest, Black Route, trail wasn't that long at 21k but, hey,
do it twice!
What a great ride it turned out to be, fitting the bill perfectly.
Initially a lot of gentle climbing on smooth Red Route tracks through the
trees to the point I wondered if there was more to the place, the trees
gave way to more open country but the trail remained benign - and then the
Red singletrack kicked in and the fun began. Further along the Black Route
diverged from the Red to provide a real roller coaster ride with steep,
swooping berms and even a bit of elevated North Shore. Much joy!
1.75 hours later back at the car park so around I went again this time
knowing what to expect and although on neither circuit was I pushing it the
second loop was marginally quicker despite feeling I'd taken it more
easy.
A great ride and got back to wathch the second half of Englands whupping by
Germany. You gotta pick yer sport!
At 2 hours to get there and only a little more for the return journey I'll
be back!
