4th July 2019 Windsurfing: The Dip-Felixstowe Wind Direction: ssw Wind Stength: 5/10 Surf / Sea State: smooth Air Temperature: 23 Sea Temperature: Weather: Sunny and hot :) Max Speed: 12.36 (knots - unless stated otherwise) Distance Covered: 9.82 (Nautical Miles - unless stated otherwise) Friday 5th – Windsurf **** The Dip to Landguard – sunny and hot Fin – 12.36 knot max., 11.21 knot ave., 5.77 knot hour, 9.35 knot mile, 18.20 km., 7.53 knot alpha. Fanatic Cat with Tushingham Lightning 9.4 and 39 fin. The forecast for the coming week is pretty pants so wasn’t expecting to get out today! Had a nice morning having a cuppa in Chris and Marion’s lovely garden while collecting a chain saw, then a couple of things to do in town and home for lunch in the garden in the shade as it is pretty hot. The phone goes and its Neil Hurrell saying there is a bit of a sea breeze so we headed to The Dip for about three. The wind was fairly light but we quickly decided to rig 9.4 and take the longboards out for a cruise. I actually remembered my shortie today but then tried to turn on my new GW-60 ( a gps watch) and it steadfastly refused to turn on :( This is my third replacement for faulty watches and I have defiantly had enough of sending them back now and want my money refunded as they are absolute crap and not fit for purpose. When I got home, we connected it to the mains and the watch turned on but the battery was completely flat after charging it for hours yesterday so will continue to look for a GT-31 gps! Still that’s enough moaning and back to the sailing, Neil and I agreed to beat down towards the pier and see what the wind was like? To be honest it was a fraction on the light side, enough at times to get in the beating straps railed up and being hot and sunny it was a pleasure sailing along the coast. We reached the pier and continued onto the River Orwell at Landguard and I pipped Neil landing first. We had a drink and banana and set off back on a runny reach and Neil easily beat me on this leg not helped by the fact that I fell in twice!!! It was lighter on the way back and Neil’s wider tailed Starboard defiantly sails faster in theses marginal conditions on a tight reach. It was an unexpected bonus sail and I am not holding my breath for a sail anytime soon but you never know your luck! Photo Gallery Here |
