Tuesday 2nd - bike ***** - Felixstowe circuit – Sunny and hot.

After 5 days windsurfing it was a relief that the easterly wind had died down and the forecast cloudy day failed to arrive and we were treated to another sunny/warm day here in Suffolk:) As Mag and I haven’t been on our bikes for awhile we were keen to get out on them, deciding to take our breakfast (Weetabix and fruit) to the picnic benches at the Water Ski Jetty on the banks of the River Deben. Leaving home at 8.45 we took the footpath down the side of The Grove park to Marsh Lane, across the farm track to Kings Fleet spotting Reed Buntings and Warblers. There are several pairs of Swans now raising their young in the dykes at the back of the Deben, we saw a couple of groups including one with seven youngsters:) It was as beautiful as ever as we bumped our way along the river path with not a soul in sight. Then approaching the jetty there was a couple sitting at the end but we stopped anyway and had a nice chat with them and learned they had paddled their canoes up here from The Dip and were waiting for the tide to turn, which it did as we watched. Then we enjoyed our breakfast and it’s nice to see boats back on the river, including yachts, people fishing and even a couple of ski boats who tied up at the jetty! We then continued further along the Deben before turning off to Falkenham Church. We then took several bridle ways back to Felixstowe with the fields of potatoes now coming into bloom:) So another top bike ride out for 2 hours 50 minutes enjoying the best that Suffolk has to offer, then a reduced set of exercises in the sunny back garden, lunch before a social distancing get together in the front garden of an elderly friend with probably the same tomorrow before perhaps an early morning windsurfing session on the beautiful River Stour? But sadly it will be much cooler :(
