Sunday 12th - bike ***** - Early morning Felixstowe circuit including
breakfast at the water ski jetty – Sunny and warm.
For the second day in a row we wake to another sunny day but with light
airs today so Mag and I decide to take our breakfast to the water ski jetty
on the River Deben. We were down on the prom at 6.45 and thankfully it was
much quieter than yesterday. The usual route down to Felixstowe Ferry
passing a few Stand up paddle boarders with fishing boats heading out of
the Deben which was like a mill pool:) Yet more pictures taken of boats and
reflections at the Ferry before heading down past Kings Fleet to the picnic
tables at the water ski jetty which the dykes full of noisy Reed warblers
with pippets and butterflies flitting about in front of us as we peddle
along. Weetabix with fruit with a cuppa for breakfast while we are
entertained by two speedboats, one with wakeboarders and one with water
skiers! We continue past Ramsholt hoping to see the Spoonbills which have
take up residence in the marshes on that side of the river, sadly there was
no sign of them but we spotted some birdwatchers over there so they are
probably about! There was a couple od Shell ducks in the river with 13
young, they must have been baby sitting them as a SUP passed with four open
water swimmers. We saw the Marsh Harrier as we approached Kirton Creek
before taking the footpaths and bridle ways back towards Felixstowe. We had
a message from our friends the Hurrells from their carven inviting over for
a cuppa so headed down there for a nice catch up, although I have seen Neil
loads while windsurfing, we think it is the first time we have seen Linda
this year! Then back home for a well-deserved salad in the garden after
having been out on the bikes over six hours! I half heartily did my
exercises and read, with the SE breeze picking up I learned that David
Coles was heading down to The Dip to give his new foil board a spin but I
was knackered and fell asleep in the garden! So a great weekend with two
good bike rides covering 30 miles :)
