Tuesday 26th September – Windsurf **** The Dip at Felixstowe – sunny
periods and mild.
Foil – 18.58 knot max, 15.81 knot ave, 11.20 knot hour, 15.84 knot mile,
28.48 km., 11.46 knot alpha.
Starboard Freeride 150 and a Evolution Freeride foil with a Tushingham Bolt
5.5.
As we had arranged to look after our Granddaughter, the lovely Maeva I was
on a limited time scale but as the winds were light first thing I had time
to do my exercises. I then hitched the trailor and headed down to Squiz
Lane at The Manor but there was two fishermen in my launch spot so reversed
out and drove to The Dip despite it being near high water and I would have
very little beach to launch. I arrived at 10.35 with enough beach to
launch, just but very little wind so I went for a walk towards the golf
course with my camera to get some pics to send the the local TV weather and
was lucky enough to get on on ITV,s About Anglia, it was a good day as I
got one in the local paper today too:) Then around 11 there was enough
breeze to tempt me into setting up my foil board and I was going to rig 6.5
but suddenly it was gusting to 18 knots so I went with my favourite
Tushingham Bolt 5.5:) I launched OK around 11.45 and my first run out I
thought I had too much sail but it proved ideal for most of the two hour
session. Once again the sea was quite big but being on the foil it is nuch
easier on the body, especially my left knee which I twisted on Sunday while
sailing! I sailed past the red and white bouy, gybed and started to beat
down the coast riding well over the big sea, I made it past the pier and
gybed in front of the new ferris wheel, it took a 100m to get going but
once I was flying I had the most wonderful 3.50 run back just playing with
the waves with the sail so light in the hands. It was so goo I decided to
do it again:) The wind eased a little which pushed me close to the shore, a
gybe at Jacobs Ladder soon got me back on track for the ferris wheel but
after another top bet the wind sadly dropped as I reached the pier making
it a slow slog back but I made it back OK, this dropped a 5 star session
down a notch but still an enjoyable session:) Then home to spend a
wonderful after with Mag and Maeva we went for cuppa to an old friend, Mary
who really loved seeing Maeva. We then walked down to The Fludyers and had
a nice walk back along the prom which was nice especially as the wind was
light and we were lucky enough to see a Humming Bird moth in the Spa garden
and Maeva got a 45 minute sleep – top day:)
