Saturday 14th October – Windsurf ***** River Orwell at Levington Marina
– sunny but cooler.
Foil – 19.48 knot max, 18.36 knot ave, 12.42 knot hour, 15.70 knot mile,
51.06 km., 15.98 knot alpha.
Starboard Freeride 150 and a Evolution Freeride foil with a Tushingham
Storm 6.5.
With a nice breeze from the WNW forecast there is no need to drive 50+
miles to the Wrabness when I have Levington on my doorstep:) it also gave
Mag a chance to get some of her plants indoors as the temperature is set to
drop. It was lovely and sunny today but definitely cooler but Mag was up to
biking over later with lunch, so I set off for the marina in a chilly 10
degrees, woolly hat on too arriving at 9.30 in wall to wall sunshine and
got a cracking pic of the boats in the marina before parking:) Loads of
water, in fact we were in for a high tide today, foil board was quickly set
up, sail size was harder as the wind is a fraction off at the launch beach,
I nearly went for 5.5 as there was a lot of white water in the middle of
the river but in the end I went for 6.5 which proved ideal for the two and
a half hour session:) Launching at ten the session quickly turned into a
gybe feast, doing around 75 and not going in the water once, getting some
nice turns in too:) The best wind was on the corner but it was fairly
lumpy but not a problem for foiling, I spent a bit of time down towards the
docks, it was great out in the sunshine just me, several yachts, a seal and
loads of birds both waders and geese, just lovely:) I started the beat back
and because the river was high you could gybe close to the shore, with Mag
biking down for 12.30 I returned to the area in front of the launch beach
getting some nice gybes in front of the van, I thought I saw Mag there with
the camera so actually did my best flying gybe of the day and sadly it was
not Mag as she had not arrived! After several runs across the river I was
getting knackered so decided to call it a day as another windsurfer, Keith
who I had not seen before came down to fin! I had timed it perfectely as it
was 12.30 so walked to the shower block with my camera hoping to get a pic
of Mag. I sat on the small jetty and waited for Mag and she arrived at
12.45, then a quick shower and back to the van for a yummy lunch while
watching Keith out on a big slalom board and 7m, he was going well:) It was
great sitting in the van relaxing after a top session, my new O,Neil 5mm
wetsuit was great too, I will probably sell my ION 4mm wetsuit which is
really good but a fraction too small! Then home to watch the rugby, two
cracking games, well down Argentina they played really well! Can Ireland
win?
