Sunday 24th December - walk **** – Hemley circuit - cloudy and breezy.

After yesterdays gusty windsurf foil on the River Orwell yesterday and with the strong wind continuing today from the wsw not the best direction for Levington I decided to give sailing a miss today. instead enjoying a lovely day with Mag:) I did my exercises for the first time in a week before packing a picnic and despite the gloom, at least it was not raining we drove over to Hemley church for lunch enjoying the peace and quiet of the Suffolk countryside:) We were going for a walk in the sheltered woods at Newbourne Springs but decided to walk here instead, Mag definitely had the right footwear for today as it was very muddy but great fun, not seeing another person the whole time we were out:) We took the country lane path first slipping and sliding to Kiron Creek, with the tide low there was lots of waders making the most of the mud! We carry on the River Deben path sheltered for the main part from the wind. We walked out to get a close look at the river and spooked a flock of lapwings quickly followed by a large number of avocets, always great to see them! Then it was home for a cuppa, nice day despite the gloom:)
