6th October 2006 Windsurfing: Shoreham Wind Direction: W Wind Stength: F7 - F8 Surf / Sea State: Big! Air Temperature: Sea Temperature: Warmish Weather: Sunny Max Speed: Distance Covered: Wow. Probably my best ever proper wave-sailing session at Shoreham. Nik Baker started the show at just after 2pm, with an awesome display of huge push-loops, perfect waverides, and some pretty big frontside aerials (at Shoreham!). Matt Pearch joined in shortly afterwards, and the five or so of us that had rigged just stood and watched for 20mins or so, clocking the double-loops etc. and enjoying the show. Once out there though, it was just perfection! Well powered on a 4.0m, you couldn't help getting big-air, and by this time the wind was properly cross-shore, making for some of my first proper down-the-line runs. No need to join the botton-turn-b*llsh*tters club today, this was the real thing! No crowds today either. I had to stop at about 4:30 as my leg had cramped up, but after a bit of a rest I went out again, and by this time a lot of others had turned up - and so had the rest of the wind! For the rest of the session the wind was a bit crazy. It was 3.5m weather I guess [edit: station shows ~37mph & gusts of 57mph], but for many of us 4.0m was the smallest we had, so it was a case of staying to the inside and just playing with the waves. I could go on but I'm sure others will fill in the rest. Taking a day off work on a forecast is always a bit of a gamble, but today it worked out perfectly. Oh, and I forgot to say that the whole session was in glorious sunshine |
