Arrived 13.00 just as a shower was about to come over. Sat it out in the car and starting rigging a 5.5 (others were using 5.3 ish). As the shower passed it seemed to pick up well so I went back to the car and got the wave board out with the 4.7. By the time I had changed the wind had dropped a bit and I thought I might have to re-rig but decided to just go with it. There was a bit of a swell but the shore dump wasn't anything really. Launched quite happily then tripped over a wave and spent about a week water-starting: catapulted a couple of times and off I went, suitably chastened by mother nature. The first few runs were chaotic with a lot of wet gybes, some borderline catapults and no relaxed sailing whatsoever. But in the manner of these things it started to come together very slowly. In fairness it was very hard. Some huge gusts and otherwise just generally windy. At no point did I feel I needed to go bigger than the 4.7 and Rip. As one squall came through the sea turned a sickly greeny yellow and flattened off with the gusts as the cold air fell from the cloud. By this time the sea was off the shingle bank so the shore dump was minimal though some swells were still firing up the odd wave.

Finally gave it best around 4.30 and hit the hot showers. Bliss. Just managed to derig and get the kit in the car before the next shower. I felt I'd done well just to get in a couple of dry gybes and not get trashed kit-wise or personally. A tough day but rewarding. Any wave board day has to be worth a minimum 4 *s.
