A nice little group of us (Me, Dave, Myles, John, Andy and Malcolm) all headed down to Brechfa to try out the new Raven (Black) Trail for the first time.

It was raining again but we were all keen to see what this new trail had to offer.

It started off with very short climb and then a nice little bit of singletrack to ease us in and then the going got tough. From here there was quite a bit of tricky and very muddy climbing. Malcolm who was on a singlespeed was soon off and pushing and I think everyone followed suit in a few places. The first proper descent was equally as muddy, slippery and difficult meaning you ended up going sideways as often as forwards and once again most of us were defeated by it.

There was one really good descent early on with some massive wall-of death style berms which was fun. After more climbing and some forest track around the top of the forest, things started getting more interesting. Unfortunately my rear brake pads decided to fall out which meant a bit of time wasted whilst we fixed them and then a little later on everyone except John and I made a wrong turn so we lost the others for the end of the trail. They evebtually got back on track and finished it off though. The last third or so of the trail was mad. More massive berms and steep descents, some huge tabletops, nice log river crossings and some other scary trail features too.

Definitely a trail to do if you can, but it may be better when not quite so wet and muddy.
