1st August 2018 Mt. Biking: To Kings Fleet Wind Direction: Wind Stength: Surf / Sea State: Air Temperature: Sea Temperature: Weather: Sunny and hot :) Max Speed: 22.45 (knots - unless stated otherwise) Distance Covered: 11 miles (Nautical Miles - unless stated otherwise) Wednesday 1st August – Bike ***** To Kings Fleet – sunny and hot:) Relaxing morning even if we can’t go into our back garden since our son and partner found a baby Lesser Black Backed Gull wandering in the road at the front of the house, as it couldn’t fly it was placed for safety in our back garden. That was on Saturday and its still here, showing no signs of flying away but every time you go in the garden you are dive bombed by the watching parents and woe betide the cats going outside as all hell breaks loose!!! They are so noisy too and all the neighbours are wondering what on earth is going on! As our garden is quite small we ushered the youngster out the front to see if the longer take-off would help, unfortunately not so Jay had to catch it and return it to our back garden. It now has its own bird bath which it loves, a ready supply of cat food (although the parents did drop it off a chip this morning and some fish skin!!!) and shows no sign of leaving anytime soon! Mag and decided we needed to get out on the bikes for some peace and quiet so with picnic packed we headed off. Being a hot and sunny day in the school holidays we avoided the prom and went through the town to the woods at the Grove which is as lovely as ever:) Then on Gulpher Road we turn left and do our usual route but the other way around. The country lanes are very pretty and quiet just the odd combine harvester, even if the crops are going to be poor this year with the heat wave. At Falkenham we head down to Kings Fleet where we sit on a fishing platform for our yummy tuna salad then relax, read and doze:) The breeze seemed to be building but after a few WhatsApp messages I learned it was not windy enough to windsurf. We had had enough of laying in the sun so continued onto the Deben sea wall. As usual its always pretty along here with stunning views across the river framed in sea lavender. We had a quick look at the Ferry but it was busy so carried on past the golf course on the sea wall surprisingly quiet:) Mark Smalling, one of my windsurfing friends, had parked his camper at The Dip, he was feeling a bit under the weather but we had a nice chat with Glynis his wife before going home for a welcome cuppa. I learned that I was mentioned on local radio by Darren promoting the forth coming slalom windsurfing event here in Felixstowe, that’s my 15 minutes of fame and I missed it and also that Mark Swain has been accepted for early retirement, so we hope he enjoys his time as much as we do!!!!
