Sunday 9th December - bike *** – Trimley Marshes - sunny.

What a weekend it’s been! first I broke down on the way to Point Clear yesterday missing a good windsurfing session in the sunshine:( It looks like the clutch has gone so that’s another £500 of the pension gone but at least I got a 5 Star service from the AA who got me and my windsurfing trailer back to Felixstowe in two trips. Then today my front tyre kept going down on my bike, I had the inner tube out twice and found no puncture, I think I had a problem with the valve??? So, after missing out on windsurfing and with no van our only option was a trip out on the bikes, so after a morning at home Mag doing Christmas stuff, sorting presents she had put the tree up yesterday and lovely it looks too:) while I did my exercises. After a late breakfast we wrapped up as there was a chilly NW breeze and set off at 12.40. We had a few Christmas cards to deliver for an old friend before heading to Timley turning left down Station Road leading to Cordies Lane soon reaching out favourite tree lined footpath that takes us down to Loompit Lake and the River Orwell at Levington. It was at the top of the lane leading down to the river my tyre went flat. I took the inner tube out here first but found nothing and we carried on down to the Lake and it was flat again! I pumped it up a few times as we cycled the river path to the bird hides at Trimley Marshes. I walked the last half mile with a flat tyre meeting Mag in the winter flood bird hide. With the tide very high we were expecting the marshes to be full of birds but it was a bit disappointing, mainly a variety of ducks. I took my bike in the hide to look for a puncture again but found nothing, pumped it up and it held all the way home:) They have recently laid new hard core on the lane leading to Trimley Marshes making it nice to ride on, we even spotted a Barn owl:) It was then home as the sun set to light the fire and for Mag to carry on wrapping with a warming cuppa and scones:)
