4th February 2019 Windsurfing: Levington Wind Direction: SW Wind Stength: 15/25 Surf / Sea State: river chop Air Temperature: 5 Sea Temperature: Weather: cloudy drizzle Max Speed: 27.21 (knots - unless stated otherwise) Distance Covered: 12.11 (Nautical Miles - unless stated otherwise) Monday 4th February – windsurf *** Levington – cloudy drizzle :(. F2 Xantos 295 with Tushingham Lightning 6.5 and 38 cm fin 27.21 knot max, 24.25 knot ave ., 11.64 knot hour, 20.57 knot mile, 22.40 km., 17.42 knot alpha. After a good start to the year with 4 sessions in early January the weather then turned cold so I was keen to get a windsurf in February before we head off to the French Mountains on Feb. 12th for a month! We have made the most of the crisp cold weather and have had some top walks but haven’t been on the water since Jan. 13th so today looked promising once the rain moved away and later in the week including next weekend are looking very promising indeed. I have several friends out in El Medano (Tenerife) enjoying some great wind so it was nice to get out today! I had a hospital appointment about my eye, I have a bloody smear in my vision which is view annoying which was at 9.45. Mag was keen to cycle so I loaded her bike, hitched the trailer and we set off at nine in heavy rain :( I dropped the trailer off at Levington Marina and continued to Ipswich Hospital and can’t fault the NHS service, the only downside is the smear in the eye is a permanent feature, that’s one of the joys of getting older! Back at the van we unloaded her bike so she could check out several retail outlets as we have loads of plans for the house when we get back from France and I set off back to Levington in light drizzle! Mag must be nuts but she didn’t mind and loved her bike ride:) At the marina it didn’t look very inviting, poor visibility, drizzle and only 5 degrees but with the SW wind gusting over 20 knits and the tide high I had to make my mind up quick. So, I manned up and rigged 6.5 for the 133lt Xantos to take me through the lulls! I had a nice chat with James, the foiler who works at the marina but I then had to walk into the boatyard in search of someone to zip me in my wetsuit. With loads of water the launch was easy as I headed up river in the strongest wind of the session. South West is a good direction here, dead onshore meaning you could reach near to the shore and gybe in shallow water. I didn’t have to worry about that as I didn’t fall in and got some nice gybes in. Things were going well for a 25 average after getting a 27 knot max but then the wind dropped away so I called it a day after about ant hour. I was warming up with the diesel heater on in the van when Mag turned up, only a little damp after her bike ride! We then had lunch with a cuppa, read for a while and then I packed up and headed for home. So not too bad a session for February with only my hands getting cold and looking forward to a trip to Point Clear later in the week ??? Photo Gallery Here MK Booms here |
