6th February 2020 Mt. Biking: Felixstowe to Falkenham Church Wind Direction: Wind Stength: Surf / Sea State: Air Temperature: Sea Temperature: Weather: sunny Max Speed: 25.15 (knots - unless stated otherwise) Distance Covered: 13 miles (Nautical Miles - unless stated otherwise) Thursday 6th February - bike ***** - Two Rivers – Felixstowe to Falkenham Church – Sunny. This must be the calm before Storm Ciara arrives as the lovely sunny weather continues here on the coast at Felixstowe. I actually did my exercises in the back garden for the first time this year, then after breakfast with a picnic packed Mag and I set off on our bikes to visit Emily at Falkenham Church for the second time this year:) It was perfect biking weather, wall to wall sunshine and light winds as we head down the hill to the prom. The sea was like a glistening mill pool as we slowly threaded our way along the busy seafront stopping as usual to take a few pics even though I have taken them a hundred times before! It was what we call a skiing sky, a beautiful deep blue with not a cloud to be seen. At the Fludgers we take the road to the quieter Dip, past the golf course to Felixstowe Ferry where I walk along the beach to the tender park while Mag bikes around the boat yard as she had a premonition because it was such a nice day that my 90 year old Dad would be painting the bottom of a friends old fishing boat and she was right! We stopped by the freshly painted bright red boat with my Dad laying on his back roller in hand. We talked for five minutes before he realised who it was and he has known me for 66 years!!! When the penny dropped and he discovered who it was he gingerly crawled out form under the boat and said could we wait until the boat owner returned before introducing me as his biggest mistake:( I Dad is famous for his sarcastic turn of phrase so I am used to it! We have heard many tales on the adventures all these old boys get up to in the fishing boat, like something out of ‘The Last of the Summer Wine’, it was time to make a move before as we continued along the pretty River Deben path past the boat grave yard and out into the country. Turning left at Kingsfleet a fishing spot from my youth and onto Falkenham Church. This must be one of the most scenic spots in Suffolk, the flint church tower set against the blue sky with stunning views down to the river and the graveyard full of snowdrops in full bloom, just amazing:) We enjoyed our chicken sandwich and cuppa having a nice chat with a local lady out for a walk and learned the church is having a snowdrop day this Saturday featuring soup, cake and tea, should be good! After spotting a Marsh Harrier at Kingsfleet we were treated to a Buzzard at the church. Time to head home by a variety of country lanes and footpaths, sad point of the day was meeting a farmer about to pick up a large bag of rubbish just dumped in the middle of the lovely countryside, sad but the world is full of oafs:( We had been out for three hours enjoying the best that Suffolk has too offer!
