soooo gusty today
bucski - 6-12-2003 at 22:20

went out at ynyslas today at around 1ish, it was sooo gusty, my windgauge was reading 10mph one minute and then over 20 the next! Went out on my 16m but it was just impossible to do anything, and the lack of water as low tide didn't help.
I was hoping the wind would be smoother as it was supposed to be NE but I reckons it was more like straight E, oh well

Took my bullet out for a spin today too, and I agree about the erratic wind. Blowing good as I left home, but almost still walking the last bit to the flying site. Enough wind to get up ok, but the wind was so blustery that a couple of times it felt like a car had crashed into my back. Thank heavens for the safetys, coz I used them in anger today..!

I don't have a speed indicator, but I guessed the average wind at 10mph.

Tim.... Will you be back again today?

I'm about to head to the estuary now as its just about getting light. Theres a fair bit of wind (Easterly again), but it was more constant firrst thing in the morning yesterday and I should catch the high tide as well.

Pop in later if you are at Ynyslas again.... I'm sure I can be persuaded back out for another session!

Dim prob Tim.

It was pretty good yesterday in the end. A lovely steady 20-22 knot wind in the morning, pretty chilly though. Its the same this morning as well except its even colder (minus 2 at the moment) and even windier (25 knots).

I don't have time to go out today though.

I know what you mean about being tied up until after Xmas as well. I've just been looking at the forecast for next weekend and its looking good with 25-30 knots NW (My favourite direction). Unfortunately I have to go to Bristol to exchange Xmas presents with the family and collect some furniture.

I may have a plan though......

are winds from the NE usually fairly consistent? i've always found on my trips that anything with E in it tends to be fairly gusty, i would guess as it comes off the land, and anything with W in it tends to be more consistent, but that maybe coincidence, what d'ya reckon?

You're probably right, although the E and NE winds in the estuary can be pretty good.

They have been gusty recently for some reason, but its not something I've noticed before. Mind you, I may have overlooked the gustiness simply because its always so much windier in the estuary than anywhere else when theres an E-NE wind... Its been 20-25 knots here again all day today and is still pretty windy out there now.
