Hello everyone,

Has anyone out there had a look at the Google Earth software yet? This is a satallite and aerial photography program that you can zoom in and out of and has very high resolution. (Download it at earth.google.com or www.download.com)

I am currently trying to compile as many surf spots onto the maps as possible and would love any help and guidance anyone can provide.

The software is great, wasted so much work time on it.
Why look for existing known spots? Why not use it to discover new ones? Some reefs, or if the picture was taken on the right day, even waves are visible.

If only htey had pictures of Cortez Bank breaking with the surface map added in so you could see it in 3D.

Yep, it's a great time waster. And it can only get better as more hi-res pictures are added.

It only works on a PC though... Although they do say they are working on a Mac version...

Mind you my Mac is running windows as well so I guess I could give it a go if I get the time.... It does look pretty good.

Great idea...never thought to use it for surf spots...

There is actually an article about it in Surfers path this month... I waste loads of time on Google Earth these days, although flashearth.com often has better resolution aerial photography.

People where finding surf breaks years ago, using under water contour maps around the south pacific and great barrier reef. Then flying out to the spots to check they where getting it right, Epic.

Certanly a lot cheaper than hiring a plan and flying around the coast hey.

I tried google earth once and I liked it, but once I'd looked at my house, Old Trafford and The empire state building I couldn't think of anything else I wanted to see. What a spectacular lack of imagination I have
