sup fellas, im doing a surf trip to europe soon and wanted to know is it worth going to england, ireland etc. I saw in the new rippy a nice pic of cornwall and it looked decent but i want to know if that is consistent and where abouts the best waves are, im from gold coast aus and used to surfing in boardies all year round so its gotto be good over there to make bearing the cold worth it.

bucski - 11-5-2005 at 21:51

i reckon cornwall gets more perfect days per year than NSW gets, its just that NSW is warmer!
Great waves in the SW of england, pretty consistent, and not too cold in the summer, just bring a 3/2 sealed suit and you'll be fine
cheers
tim

u serious haha so i can expect better surf in cornwall england then i can expect in sunny QLD?

Jonny - 12-5-2005 at 09:18

Arent all the Aussies the 'real' "Poms" as they were sent away as prisoners a few centries ago from England so there the 'real' prisoners of mother england. I can sense some abuse coming on in the next reply.

Cornwall can be good - very good.
Northern shore of Ireland can be simply incredible. World class waves.
Well above my standard though :-(

Don't forget, if you get bored of Europe, head to little Australia. Used to be called London I think....

booger - 12-5-2005 at 10:08

johnny isnt england meant to be world rugby champs aswell? haha. nah i got no idea why we call u guys pome's but dont try to shift it onto aussies cause it suits england better
Wes, from what ive heard im keen to go to this cornwall place, sounds decent, is it crowded and how consistent is it?

Jonny - 12-5-2005 at 10:15

England may not be on there best form for the rugby. To make up for it, Were gonna be Lions tour champs this year!!

booger - 12-5-2005 at 10:19

are u english or one of them sheep shaggers?

Wes - 13-5-2005 at 07:19

Really not the right choice of abuse on a mainly welsh site!

Cornwall will pick up any swell going, and has beaches facing all directions to make the best use of conditions. Its right in the South West of England, the end of the sticking out bit. Its also small so you can drive from end to end in 2 hrs, and across in one.
As for crowds, avoid the beaches around Newquay like the plague. Fistral and watergate have so many grommets its impossible to paddle out let alone get a wave to yourself. its not a case of 3/4 pelple catching it, its 50+!
Other places get bettter conditions with less people, there is a beach guide section on this website that I think has information on some specific beaches around there.

Oh yeah, and we scored more tries, played better rugby on the way to the final and we are world champions. Unlucky mate!

booger - 13-5-2005 at 10:24

didnt score more tries mate, kicked more field goals. Good luck beating the sheep shaggers on the lions tour you will need it, you know rugby is in a poor position over there when wales or scotland or whoever wins the 6 nations. in aus if we lose to wales, scotland, ireland we consider giving up the sport.
cheers for the advice on cornwall, im used to crowds coming from goldy, ive uve heard of or seen the supabank (snappa through kirra) when its firing u dont know what a crowd is, i never surf it though mainly stick to south stradd which is almost as crowded. im more worried out my balls freezing off than the crowd.

Jonny - 15-5-2005 at 08:00

Not a sheep shagger boogy - just a Pome chillin in NZ

Hi booger,

If you ever do come go to Cornwall then check out a place called Porth Leven on the south coast. In my opinion (for what its worth) its the sickest wave there is around that area. Of course i'm sure some will disagree but you'll need balls of steel to ride there, If the Reef/rocks/harbour wall don't get you and you manage to charm the locals then you'll have a great ride!
Also worth looking at Praa Sands which is close to Porth Leven. Sennen Cove can be awesome, and there are plenty of small coves that are waiting to be discovered if you just look hard enough.

At the end of the day tho, like anywhere in the world.... if theres no swell, its tough luck.
(perfect opportunity to try the home brewed Cider down there!)
