Still early days to get excited Neil... Forecasts only seem to be showing about 10-15 knots NW at the moment for Saturday and little for Sunday.

Lets hope that changes.

Al.

Yesterday (Monday) was great, fully lit on a 12, blue skys, 11 degrees and waves. No hat, gloves or boots!

Medano's not too bad Neil, I think it'll be my 14th year this year lol. I still love the place. The conditions can be challenging though. the air in the Winter is a lot less stable. There was also a lot of fronts about when you went. Luck of the draw really eh.

Mood: Not long to go..Morocco again!

posted on 24-3-2010 at 22:34 Reply With Quote
I enjoyed my 2 weeks in El Medano and would go there again on a cheep one but there are so many other options. I've just got back from a 2 week hol in Essaouire that cost £372. Flew royal air maroc, caught a supertours bus from Marrakech to Essaouira and stayed in a very comfortable Ibis hotel, bargain.

The winds were predomninently from the SW due to the storms blowing across the Atlantic but on the last 4 days, the wind tuned NE, that is the trade that accelerates down the coast, the same windflow that makes El Medano so consistent. The NE was extremely gusty in the morning but cleaned up later in the day doubling in intensity. I prefered sailing the SW as it complimented the swell that hit the bttom end of the bay causing the waves to jack up as it was slightly cross off. That is not dangerouse as due to the bay being ark shaped, It was blowing cross on further along the bay. Wave riding was a real pleasure until I ditched my kite on day 6 and a powerful wall of water split it in two. Cost me aprox £45 to get it put back together and a real quality repair at that.

The town (Medina) was a culturaly fascinating experience and you could get a 3 course meal for less than a fiver..although, if you wanted alcohol, you would pay a premium. I just stocked up on duty free

Have come back grinning ear too ear with 11 of the 14 days kiting with quality waves, clean and weel spaced with no chop in between...larvly

i will hand my head in shame then Chris!
me thinks we dont often appreciate just how lucky we are to sail at borth; there can be fantastic conditions right on our doorstep, generally the only thing that is missing is the heat!
i do like going to Medeno but maily because of the sunshine and the warmth and also its a lovely small place and not full of fish and chip shops, where tables and chairs can be found in the same place in the morning and not in the sea etc....................not seen any nutters but a pleasant atmosphere. probably the reason why me and Ren go back year after year also Dunk. see youz all on the beach saturday for some wind i hope.

Must say i'm an el med fan, we went there again over Christmas this year, had great wind, rode 6 days out of 7, nice and warm and super convenient. Thought wind direction was a bit weird being predominantly SW but it wasn't a prob just gave the place a different feel.

Poor old Neil was sent home today, don't know how he coped really. I have suggested that he goes to counselling on his return to deal with the aftermath of what is sure to be post traumatic stress disorder.
