West Wales : Borth & Ynyslas

 River Leri Anna Landsailing cliffview

The town of Borth is basically a thin strip along the main road parallel to the sea front, with a house either side of the road. During the winter it can be one of the greyest, dreariest places imaginable, but it grows on you. Then, suddenly in the summer it's transformed as holiday makers descend on the sleepy seaside town, and shops selling all kinds of beach paraphernalia spring up seemingly from nowhere.... I don't know about you, but after a week or so of this, I kind of prefer the winter. If only we could have the warm, long sunny days without the tourists! The town itself only stretches along about a third of the beach, with the middle third of the beach being backed by the Borth & Ynyslas Golf course and the north third of the beach (technically Ynyslas) being backed by the nature reserve of Ynyslas Dunes

Two convenience stores (Spar in the south corner of Borth and Mace not far from the railway station) are open all year round and provide the necessary cold drinks and ice-creams in the summer and hot pasties in the winter. There are also two toilet blocks (one opposite Spar at the south end of the beach and the other opposite the railway station in the middle of the beach.)

Car parking is usually available all year round along the beach front or in the small car park next to the RNLI station at the south of the beach. Another car park exists at the northern end of the beach (£1 per day during the summer)
