I was keen to get out on the water today after we have just come back from visiting our son Rob and a very pregnant Hannah before moving onto the South Downs, Pagham and Chichester Harbours without any windsurfing gear but had a great time walking and biking!
The forecast wind was NE so the couple of hours before low is best, arranged with Neil Hurrell to meet at The Dip, in the end there were 5 of us out enjoying a good breeze with odd glimpse of sunshine and not being as cold as expected:) The sails varied between 5.7 and 6.9 with me going for 6.5 on the 133 lt. although the 115 might have been better.
The sea looked fairly flat from the beach but as usual it is deceiving and was as bumpy as always! The sail was OK so beat up to the River Deben in search of some flat water with it being a bit wild in the river mouth. In years past NE wind and low water meant some good flat water blasting but the shingle banks must have moved and the river narrowed and it just doesn’t work anymore:( It was hard work beating up the river against the tide with lots of walking involved then when I reached the start of the run it just wasn’t windy enough to get going!!! So back to the open sea to join the others and had some fun blasting and got my best speeds at low water then as the tide turned it lumped up so we all called it a day. Two more days of wind coming so could be OK:)
