It was always going to be a marginal forecast NNE 15 which is cross off at The Dip. Lots wanted to sail in Felixstowe but it was always going to be a bit off and also you would have been sailing through high water which causes two problems, not much beach (steep shingle bank) and confused chop so I was pretty certain it was going to be a trip into Essex to the River Stour at Bradfield. With the tide not high enough until about eleven I even managed my exercises first, arriving at 10.30 with Michael Galbraith already there. With a reading of 20 mph on the gauge and white water everywhere I rigged 7.8 on the 295 while Michael went for 6.25 but sadly it didn’t take long to realise this was not big enough. By this time loads had turned up and the carpark was pretty full:) Michael quickly came ashore to rig 7.5 while I had a few more runs. With the wind fairly onshore, cross-on from the right it took awhile to beat away from the shore and only got going in short bursts:( So a change was required, it didn’t take long to rig big and although it was better the wind just wasn’t strong enough and the planing gusts were short. I managed a run to Mistley Dock and then a beat to Wrabness but on reaching there the wind dropped completely making it a wobblily run back:( Mag had made yummy salad for lunch and a few had even packed up as the wind was very light and patchy. It filled in enough for me to give it another try but struggled to get going so called it a day shame really as loads of people had come from miles around and it was a really good turn out but this is definitely my worst session of the month, getting cooler too, just not enough wind today, perhaps we will be luckier next week!
