Exocet RF 91 AST with Slingshot Hover Glide 76 with Tushingham Lightning 7m
and X-15 6.4m.
I was not sure about sailing today after a long, wet session yesterday and
was having trouble drying my wetsuit! Also, it’s looking windier tomorrow
so I am hoping for a Birthday sail but when the sun came out around 11 and
with the wind in the west, I decided to hitch the trailer and head to
Levington for some practice. I arrived first at the Marina around 11.45
they was enough wind to fin with white water everywhere and with my much
loved Lightning 6.5 now dead I had the choice of my 6m of Lightning 7m but
in the end rigged the sail I should have used yesterday my little used
Tushingham X-15 6.4 although I didn’t want to use a 4 cam sail to foil.
Until I find a replacement 6.5 or a 2003 North camber inducer for a sail I
have in my garage, I quite fancy a Duotone E- pace 5.8, 6.6 and 8.2 as they
are great sails to fin and foil but so expensive:( By now foilers Michael
and Robert had arrived and were rigging 5.5 and 5.3! The wind then eased so
I quickly rigged my 7m as well, then suited up and went out first with the
smaller 6.4 and had a really good run into the middle of Felixstowe docks
flying all the way, slightly over powered at times! Then as I tacked the
rain arrived and the wind completely disappeared and I had a long
two-and-a-half-mile slog back, luckily, I had the tide with me so no
problem. Everyone had headed back to the beach but after a snack the wind
switched to WSW and a few gusts came through to tempt us out again.
Seasoned foiler Michael was getting some air but Robert was struggling
being way underpowered:( I switched to 7m and went out and got some flights
but soon ended up out by myself as the others packed up, I was beating
slowly back with the wind once again light and had to wait for two coasters
to pass heading out to sea. I then had a few flying runs getting my best
speeds all the better for the sun being out. Then with the wind dropping
and a huge black cloud heading my way I decided to call it a day, luckily
the rain failed to arrive and I could back up OK before having another top
shower before heading home to see if Benny and Rue, our new kittens had
come out from behind the sofa! It was nice to get out on the foil again and
it is looking promising for a Birthday session at The Manor tomorrow
