Sunday 19th May – Windsurf *** The Dip at Felixstowe – sunny and hot.

Foil – 16.54 knot max , 15.36 knot ave, 11.68 knot hour, 14.16 knot mile, 39.10 km., 10.98 knot alpha.

Starboard Freeride 150 and a Evolution Freeride foil with a Sailworks Retro 7.5.

Its been such a poor year for windsurfing that I hardly look at the forecast these days but there was some talk yesterday of a foiling breeze from the NE coming up in the afternoon so I had one eye on Landguard weather while I did my exercises in the warm back garden. Things were not looking great with a light breeze from the north most of the morning and I was tempted to pack a picnic and head out for a walk but then the wind switched to NE and picked up to 12 knots which was enough to tempt me to check out The Dip. I arrived around 1.30 and quickly set up my foil board and rigged my 7.5, I am not keen on using big heavy sails but I definitely needed it as foil racer David C was rigging 10m while Ian was setting up his 5m wing. I was first away and floundered off the beach but the breeze picked up a bit offshore and I did actually fly for most of the session but once again I had real trouble getting upwind even when nicely powered up, David was having no such problems with his big race kit and quickly disappeared down to The Manor end while I had to content myself with long runs out to the shipping channel, about 2.50 miles. Having fast today as was trying to stay upwind, also I keep hitting the waves, wasn’t sure if it was slack of sailing or I am just a crap sailor??? I was speaking to David about my upwind problems and he suggested I try a plus 1 rear spacer, I am using a minus 1 at the moment, it is supposed to be a little windier tomorrow so hopefully I can try that tomorrow:) Still I sailed nearly 25 miles so couldn’t have been too bad!
