Monday 28th April - walk ***** – Old Hall Wood , Bentley – sunny, warm with light winds.

The week starts sunny and warm, looks like it could be nice for a few days now but sadly only light breezes! Again exercises are done in the back garden before I pack a picnic and we decide to drive over to Bentley to see some more bluebells in Old Hall Woods which everyone seems to be visiting on Facebook! You take the Manningtree road off the A 14, then just past the end of Alton Water you turn right into a quiet lane leading to Capel and over the railway line parking at the end of the track which leads to Old Hall Farm Woods. We meet three people returning from the woods and ask them the way and point us the right way even though Mag knew the way as she had it on her phone! It was a nice stroll across farm land with the winter wheat coming on well, then turning right we enter the woods to the most amazing sight of a large area of Bluebells to the left under the beech tree with pines trees to the left, in fact the whole woods had equal deciduous and pine trees, must be one of the best woods in Suffolk and to think we had never been here before, just so quiet too! We enjoyed the bluebells for ages before doing a circuit of the left side of the large woods, it would be a great cycling route as you can explore lovely flat paths criss crossing the woods. Some kids had made a cycling track with jumps which looked fun! There was a great gully leading down hill which eventually lead you out of the trees for a bit before re-entering the woods before returning to the bluebells where we found a fallen tree to sit and have our picnic with stunning views of the bluebells, just perfect! After our yummy egg sandwiches we too a diagonal path through the pines coming out by a lovely farm house which then reurned back to the van after walking nearly 4 miles again! What a top day, we will definitely return, maybe in the Autumn would be good or even take the bikes to explore a little further afield? Top day:)
