What an excellent session. I popped in to see Harvey first of all and he
thought there wouldn't be enough wind at that end of the beach, but i
thoought I'd give it a go anyway as the waves looked nice. When I measured
the wind it was around 18 knots so i rigged my 5.7m sail and big board.
However, just as I was getting into my wetsuit, the mother of all squalls
came through and along with the rain, the wind suddenly jumped up to
something ridiculous. I had to crouch on the floor and hold my kit down
just to stop it blowing away. I did think about rigging my wave board and
3.4m sail for a while, but the squall soon passed and the wind dropped back
off again.
I went out with the big kit in the end and by now there was only just
enough wind to get going, so I headed off along the beach a bit and out
beyond the shelter of the cliffs where the wind was much better. It soon
started filling in again though, so I ended up sailing back up towards the
lifeboat station so that I could pllay in the waves. I then had an hour od
absolutely perfect conditions. The sun was shining the waves were lingin up
nicely and the the wind was perfect. I had some really nice wave rides with
loads of turns on the face, then I;d make a nice gybe on the inside,
straight into the straps and back out through the waves, usually jumping
off the wave that I had just ridden in. Out the back there were some bigger
swells that were jacking up nicely to provide perfect ramps for some of the
biggest jumps in my life... Wooohooo!!!
The wind then went ballistic and there was no way I could hold on, so I
decided enough was enough and packed up.... Stoked.
