stevebus organsised a guided trail ride with "overlander trail
tours"...met up with the others at M6-j17 at the arranged time of 7:15am
and then we drove in convoy to the start , which was a nice cottage in the
hills with dirtbikes in the living room.:).........6 of us in total plus
the guide who was riding a monster of a CCM 600.....i was'nt sure exactly
what to expect and was only hoping that my own monstrous KTM 620 was'nt
going to be too much of a handful, especially when i saw the very nimble
looking 250's that the others were riding..we did 3 stream crossings.one of
which could be decribed as a small river....engine high deep water with
quite a lot of flow.....not a good place to hit a boulder on the river
bed....long,fast, sweeping puddle filled tracks across moorland, boulder
filled lanes, techincal rocky asccents and descents that shook you to
peices..the only way up was to power on...and try to avoid the really big
stones..rutted tracks about a foot deep with no way out.......the highlight
of the day was one of the guys attempting a rocky ascent while we were
taking a break...about half way up he just seemed to go flying off his bike
and then dissapeared.it was obvious he had come off the bike but we
expected him to just stand up....after approx 15 seconds when there was
still no sign of him.....we all ran up to where we saw him fall off.....he
was now at the bottom of an almost sheer 20 foot embankment with his bike
upside down,,,,there was absolutely no way we could get the bike back
up......his only option was to drag it down the boulder filled river just a
bit further down......he then had to man handle/ride/drag his bike down
this rock filled river bed for about a 100 yards until he could find a way
out.luckily he was'nt hurt and we were able to carry on....rode faster than
i would've liked at times, but luckily managed to stay on the bike allday.
excellent session.:)
