Well Paul S, it was great. Really dry and fast riding today - I thoroughly
enjoyed it and I'm sure you would have too! Bad Luck.
I charged off with the front group behind the police escort - yes 1100
riders got 2 lady cops to show you the way.
I knew the ride would be easier than last year and faster - anything would.
My GPS worked great, so great the group kept waiting for me to tell them
were to go. After an hour or so I couldn''t keep the pace up the climbs,
and found myself in the second group. By the food stop at about 11:30 at
Guiting Power, it was really sunny and warm. I refilled my Camelback (why
fill it up and take gallons with you) and took a few bananas, then 15 mins
later back on the roads.
I set off with the group I was with, some strong guys that I could use to
help me on the road sections. On the descent to Severnhampton, that was it
I got a bit dropped. Then climbing back up my legs didn't work, a guy from
Stourbridge gradually was pulling away up the Cleeve Common.
I was catching lots of half distance people, last year we didn't see any.
Cleeve was good dropping down to the "butterfly field" and back up again
across the common.
Descending down Postlip was well knarly. Rock hard and really bumpy.
I finished at 1:37pm so 4hrs:37mins. I was well chuffed with that. Fastest
ever (back in my 20s I did it in about 5hrs - but that was back when front
sus was a treat and full sus didn't exist) and the 25th Anniversary
Ride.
Super Event, well organised and marshalled at the main roads.
Hope you had a good ride Col (hows your head?), Mike and Sparky.
