Biking: Around Felixstowe Wind Direction: Wind Stength: Surf / Sea State: Air Temperature: Sea Temperature: Weather: sunny and warm Max Speed: 24.21 (knots - unless stated otherwise) Distance Covered: 13.27 (Nautical Miles - unless stated otherwise) Saturday 1st June – Bike ***** Around Felixstowe - sunny and warm:) With light winds and wall to wall sunshine it was a good opportunity to get the new month off to a good start with a bike ride. We ate breakfast, watching our son Dan give his asthmatic cat its inhaler (which he loves laying flat out on his side purring his way through 10 deep breaths!) Dan is off to London with some mates today to see Tenacious D - we are only a little jealous as we saw them when the boys were teenagers and they are a top live band:) We made a flask and set off at 9.30 heading off to the cliff top at the end of our road where some overzealous workers have strimmed the wild plants near the steps down to the beach destroying another small section of wild habitat and it looks awful too an area of brown dead plants:( We decided to do our favourite route but in reverse and headed to the Grove wood – it is always beautiful although the wild garlic flowers have gone over. It still smells nice and the variety of green is always nice. We take it easy as there are several dog walkers before coming out on Gulpher Road. We are soon off road taking several footpaths across fields with various crops and arriving at Falkenham Church. We sit on our usual seat and have our cuppa with Emily, as we always say - she is buried in front of our bench with lovely views, she sadly died aged 24 in 1877! We had a pair of buzzards overhead and the air was filled with the sound of birds:) Refreshed from our cuppa we leave the church turning left along paths, over the works laying electric cables for the offshore wind turbines. Nearing the River Deben, we come face to face with a small deer who disappears into a wheat field. We are treated to some more great Suffolk skies, deep blue with the odd wispy cloud just stunning. With the tide high Felixstowe Ferry Sailing Club were out in force having fun as they do every Saturday and I watched them from the end of the deserted Ski Club jetty. We spotted a pair of swans with 5 newly hatched youngsters before ending up at Felixstowe Ferry which was absolutely heaving with people including those crabbing. Then back along the beach path through the golf course which was again busy. We avoided The Fludgers heading through the town being out 3 hrs 15 mins. covering 13 ¼ miles, a great way to start the month and tomorrow is looking promising for a windsurfing session:) Photo Gallery Here |
