Biking: Around Felixstowe Wind Direction: Wind Stength: Surf / Sea State: Air Temperature: Sea Temperature: Weather: cloudy, cool start then sunny and warm Max Speed: 22.37 (knots - unless stated otherwise) Distance Covered: 12.56 (Nautical Miles - unless stated otherwise) Sunday 4th April - bike **** - Around Felixstowe including breakfast at Levington Marina – cloudy, cool start then sunny and warm. Decided yesterday as today’s forecast was to be sunny and fairly mild before we get a blast of cold weather from the north, we would head over to Levington Marina for breakfast. Woke to a cool and cloudy start to the day but decided to head on our bikes around 9 o clock and you definitely needed your gloves on as a bit on the nippy side! The good thing was it was lovely and quiet seeing very few people, always a bonus:) With the footpaths now dried out we could keep off the roads for much of the ride and its good to see what crops have been planted and where this year! We spotted our first deer, a solitary Muntjac just after crossing Cordys Lane in Trimley. Following our favourite tree lined track spotting two small herds of deer ether side of the path but no white one yet. Then down the steep track by Loompit lake to the banks of the River Orwell with the tide really low! There were several fly fishermen on the lake but sadly not many birds about from a large group of Martins perhaps newly arrived? Then around to the picnic bench in the marina BBQ area surrounded by blooms including daffodils, purple nettles, forsythia and pink flowering red current which the bees were loving. It is a lovely spot to eat our Weetabix with a hot cuppa looking down the Orwell with Felixstowe dock in the distance with a dredger working. The sun was beginning to break through but it was still chilly, after a good rest I walked to the river spotting several geese in the mud, plus a load oyster catcher with a wagtail by the marina. We then went to the marina office to pay my yearly membership to windsurf here, the showers alone are worth the fee:) We then went to check out our launch beach and the area is mostly cleared so windsurfing is once again possible from the best launch area by the marina entrance! We headed out of the marina road where security was checking cars entering taking the footpath to the right following the rail tracks where we spotted another herd of deer including the white one:) At Trimley we took Candlet Lane back to The Grove wood, on to the seafront and home, a top bike ride being out for over three hours covering nearly 13 miles. I could then do my exercises in the sunny back garden as the kittens had several mad moments. Yummy hot cross buns for dinner, will get back to a healthier diet next week and I had one eye on the wind strength which did build slightly late in the afternoon. I could not be bothered in the end, deciding to watch the boat race instead as it was on the Great Ouse I river I used to fish many years ago!
