26th May 2024 Windsurfing: Levington Wind Direction: S Wind Stength: 10/15 Surf / Sea State: smooth Air Temperature: Sea Temperature: Weather: sunny and warm Max Speed: 17.90 (knots - unless stated otherwise) Distance Covered: 22.50 mile (Nautical Miles - unless stated otherwise) Sunday 26th May – Windsurf ** River Orwell at Levington – sunny and warm. Foil – 17.90 knot max , 16.42 knot ave, 4.57 knot hour, 12.72 knot mile, 36.79 km., 12.88 knot alpha. Starboard Freeride 150 and a Evolution Freeride foil with a Tushingham Storm 6.5 and Sailworks 7.5 . As we have our Grandson Arlo plus his mum and dad coming for a weeks visit, also our van is in the garage for a couple of days from Tuesday I was keen to get out foiling today. The day did not start well with yet more rain but luckily that cleared and the with picked up nicely, my first thought was to head down to The Manor but changed my mind as I thought the flatter water on the River Orwell would be better for me to see if the change of rear spacer on my foil was making any difference? I arrived at the marina at 10.30 with enough water to launch OK and enough breeze to tempt me into rigging my 6.5. I had to do half a dozen short tacks to get to deep water and the session started OK with enough wind to fly and I was getting some nice gybes in the flat water but the wind quickly went patchy, Robert had joined me also foiling with 6.5, he is much lighter than me so was still flying while I was struggling:( I headed back to change sails but a gust tempted me to do a couple more runs but it was hard work so I headed in as Micheal headed out with 5.8. I quickly set-up my 7.5 which I am not keen on using as its so heavy to use and not much fun to gybe:( The big sail did improve things slightly but there was still long spells of non-flying as I slowly made my way down the river. At least the sun was out and it was a beautiful day, nice to be out with loads of yachts, I was on the water over three hours but only covered 22 miles! Knackered I decided to call it a day and head fr home enjoying a cuppa with Mag and hearing about her day as she gave away loads of her tomato plants! It is our 45th wedding anniversary and to celebrate I made beans on toast as that’s what we had for tea on our wedding day, we certainly know how to live! Sods law the wind picked up to 20 knots here inn Felixstowe as soon as I got home! Photo Album here |
