Take a look through the beachguide on this site, there are lots of places that should be fine for you. Places that spring to mind that should be OK and also relatively busy are Cold Knap (just avoid it on high tide), Newton, Porthcawl and Aberavon. Try chatting to the guys at Rat Rigs in Cardiff (http://www.ratrigs.com), or Wind Addiction (http://www.windaddiction.co.uk) in Barry as well to find out where everyone else will be on a given day. There are a couple of S. Wales sailors on this site too, so hopefully one of them may help out or agree meet you somewhere one weekend.

The JP FSW 94 should be OK, its obvously not a full on wave-riding board, but it will be perfect for your first forays into the waves.

I'm from South Wales, but I'm not actually any good at any of this yet. However, as justal says, check out the beachguide here as its pretty much spot on as far as I can tell.

If theres some wind, then theres almost always someone out at the beaches justal has mentioned, espeically at Aberavon (listed as Port Talbot in the beachguide). Although, its mainly kite-surfers these days.

Let us know how you get on with your first wave-sailing attempts.
