I keep getting really bad chaffing all around my kneck from my dry suit. After just one session i get a massive ring of a scab all around my kneck which is pretty rank! Does anyone else get this? Dont know whether i might be allergic to the rubber

Yep I think everyone gets it.... That is assuming your kneck is the same place as my 'neck'!

That is why you can buy rash-guards, which work for me

Also, vaseline on your neck before you go out can help, but vaseline being petroleum based can degrade the neoprene in your suit (apparently)... Maybe KY jelly would be better, but explaining the existence of either in your kit bag could be a little embarassing, and I wouldn't recommend telling people that you regularly head off to deepest darkest wales with a car full of rubber suits and KY Jelly

Especially seeing as you end up with bondage marks around your necK when you return!

Making sure you keep your suit clean can help reduce it too, but it is inevitable if you spend lots of time in your suit... The Rash Guards help for me.

cheers for that al. I think i will try one of these rash guards, i presume you can get them from most surf shops?

It should stop anyone in the future asking if i am into asphyxiation! ha ha

It quite often is caused by a badly fitting wet suit, to tight or to loose. Slap on the vasseline before hitting the water. I get chaffing some where else, aawwww!!

Mate, if it's a dry suit don't use vaseline - petroleum products will attack the rubber, greatly shortening the life of the seal. Same for neoprene wet suits too. I have met some people who find that Rash vests cause them more rashes!

The best thig to do is wear it more often (if you need an excuse) Your skin will build up some resistance to the rubbing - eventually!

You just said that Al!

Ben i find not shaving since the day before i am onthe water helps..............just one of those things i think, asked one of my diver friends and he has neoprene seals around his neck see you at the weekend

Yip, the no shaving thing helps, thats why I never shave!! If your in a dry suit not a wetty, splash on the talk, instead of the vass!!

I also regularly get the 'ring of honour' around my neck. Haven't really worked out how to prevent it, but I do know how to treat it.

NAPPY RASH CREAM !!!

Yip, being a Dad of 2 wee boys, you soon discover that nappy rask cream is prefect for curing those red raw sores on your skin. I really works. Without the cream it normally takes around a week for the scabs to heal and drop off. With the cream you don't get the scabs to the same extent and it is cleared up in around 3 days!

So looks like the kite boys will have an interesting time down at the chemists: KY and sodocream!!
