Bank Hol Weekend
shem - 23-8-2007 at 06:32

Looking pretty useless for the weekend. Probably just as well, cos weathers looking good and therell be loads of peps on the beach.

Just a quick note to those land kiting at Aberdovey, please dont do it at high tide. Stay in the 2 mile zone from Cemetry to Tywyns first groyn, and if the beach is packed dont do it at all. Kite surfers launch as close to the water as poss, and dont fly your kite around people. Asbos will be issued to those who dont listen.

There was a incident in Aberdovey yesterday where a speed boat collided with a jet ski,( involved air lifting and a whole load of people), so we dont want any incidents!

Thanks

Good points Shem.... And apply that common sense whereever you are, not just Aberdovey.

Eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeek! DIY? thats not right.
Im up the road at Coed y Brenin for the bank holiday with the mountain biking club so Im sure there will be a little wind.
Im heading up early on Friday will be taking a little detour on the way up via Machynlleth for some breakfast then going to ride the Climmachx trail.
Have you ridden any of the man made trails yet Al?

justal - 23-8-2007 at 10:21

Not really... I rode the northern loop of the Syfydrin Trail at Nant yr Arian as my first ride, and have done a little exploring, but haven't been up to the Mac trails yet.... maybe this weekend??

I was in the estuary with the kids yesterday and saw the helicopter action over the other side. First looked like an Air ambulance came in followed by a search & resuce, both landed on the beach a Dyfi before heading North to I guess Bangor.

Summer jet ski time buzzing the beach almost running over the little ones playing in the watres edge, not good.

Time to buy myself a new mountain bike as well, I've been trying to decide which one to get for 2 months now. Also trying to get our boss to set up a cycle to work scheme so I can get it tax free. Thinking of one of the Giant Xtc's.

The switchbacks on the last part of the Mach 3 trail are amazing. The last steep downhill hill bit through wet slate is bloody scary (not a big fan of full downhill biking....the odd rock is ok :bigsmile3d

Still looks like me new Fuel will have to stay in the wrapper for another weekend. Still, should be good for wakeboarding and mountain biking in Brecon.

Cheers,

Simon

I'm away with the missus to Barra, South & North Uist and Harris for 9 Days!!!!

justal - 24-8-2007 at 06:32

Don't bother with Harris and Lewis, the Uists are the best!! Although, the surf on Lewis and Harris is probably a little more consistent.

Make sure you check out Berneray and Eriskay whilst you are there (at the far north and south of the uists and now connected to them by causeways. and there are just SO many other beaches that you will fall in love with all along the coast of the Uists... If you want some super smooth kitesurfing get to Vallay Strand on North Uist at high tide... If the sun is shining you'll think you are in a tropical paradise!

Enjoy.... Although it'll be hard not to.

Turned out good here in Borth in the end... blazing sunshine and a solid 20 knot wind for most of the afternoon... I did sit on the beach for a while but decided there were just too many people around for my liking so spent most of the day in the hills.

shem - 27-8-2007 at 09:31

Same here Al. Great wind and sunshine, but just so many people. Im actually looking forward to solid winter winds and a 5mm suit just to thin out the beach goers.

Talk about about grumpy old men... we're just miserable locals.
