Gun Sails
paul - 2-9-2005 at 12:36

I'm guessing someone on here can answer this one pretty quickly (well assuming he's not sailing/surfing/kiting/changing nappies)

I'm after a couple of new or 2nd hand sails probably 5.3 and 4.5, ahve you tried both the gun wave sails, not to worried about bottom end, more interested in top end ?

any comments, pictures etc etc ?

Ive got an 5.3 mc wave and a 6.3 flash they don't get used that much as I sail inland most of the time but im more than happy with them, maybe cos Im used to my sails but they always feel nicer than the neil prydes that I have sailed with in Dahab.
I know Al's got guns sails too

I guess the main thing to say is I would buy another without hesitation

Yep, I've got both the Wave MC and the Imoact Wave (now called the target). Both are well built with loads of cross-ply... (Well tested cross-ply in the case of my 5m Wave MC which I've accidently tried to put a harness hook and.or my head through on numerous occassions without any success!!!)

The Target is the one for top end control, its billed as a full-on wave sail and certainly needs a fair bit of wind, but therefore handles mad conditions really well. I have a 4.5m Impact Wave (Target) and only use it when it is blowing more than a solid 25 knots. For a small sail it doesn't actually feel too twitchy either. I also have a 5m Wave MC which is probably my favourite sail, although billed as an on-shore wave sail and therefore has a little more power, it can be rigged with loads of downhaul and a fair bit of outhaul to flatten it off and it then twists off really well and handles pretty windy conditions.

To be honest I wouldn't say there was a huge amount of difference in the two models really.

HTH.

cheers guys, can't find a deal on any pryde search's for the price I want to pay, but those gun's look well priced, might have to risk the "dark side"

Go for it Paul.... You won't regret it, the build quality is just as good, I like the performance, the warranty is good (2 years) and the price can't be beaten... especially as Gun have a sale on at the moment... The 4.5m Wave MC is only £188 at the moment!!! They also have (according to their website) a brand new 2004 4.5m Hammer for £180...

NOTE I got the names muddled up above... I should have said the Hammer was the replacement for the Impact Wave and is the full on wave sail, not the Target which is the new freemove sail.

Haven't ordered anything yet, but it's looking like gun, also looked at pryde, ezzy and severne, but haven't found any good deals, so may be MC wave's 4.7 and 4.1

that should kill the wind for a couple of months

paul - 13-9-2005 at 15:28

ordered them now......

Yeh new toys are fab, although it'll probably be a while before I get to use any sub 5m sails ! Maybe we'll get lots of gales this autumn. It's not been great down here so far this month, all the wind is tracking north due to this high pressure, nothing here yesterday but apprently 4.2 weather in Rhosniger.......
