Snowboarding

So, did anyone manage to get out snowboarding in the recent snow??

There wasn't enough of the white stuff here unfortunately. Shame really as I could have done with the exercise of walking up the hill a few times.

I'm making my first ever attempt at snowboarding ths Christmas.
I was wondering if it would be worth my while having a quick go on a dry slope beforehand or is this not particularly helpful.

I was thinking either Pembrey or Llangrannog.

Recommended or not? Cheers

I'd guess any advice/tuition you can get before you go has got to be a good thing, especially if it means your off the nursery slopes faster.

I've had one go at the snowdome in tamworth and it was great fun.

It will help a bit I guess, but isn't actually that much like the real thing/ Doing it on real snow is much easier and less painful than on a dry ski slope.

I've never been to Pembrey, but have been to Llangrannog. Its not the best dry ski slope in the world but will be fine for your first few goes, and will get you used to the board, boots and lift etc. if nothing else.. Just be careful not to injure yourself on the dry ski slope before your holiday. Its easily done.

I agree with Al - I learned to Snowboard on a dry slope and broke my thumb as well as many a friction burn and loads of bruises. Snow is much easier and a lot less painful.

That said, I would recommend giving it a go wherever you get the chance. The Snow Dome in Tamworth is good, as is Xscape in Milton Keynes (both real snow and therefore expensive) - and probably worth the trip.

Also the dry slope I went to only had fixed/ski-boot bindings on the snowboards which made it even more difficult - check if they have soft bindings before you pay!!

Good luck and like Al said, don't damage yourself before your holiday!

i teach snowboarding at the snowdome in tamworth and the more practice that you can get before you go on hols will make you time on the slopes much more enjoyable.be sure to get yourself some wrist guards and a good helmet .once you have mastered the board get some real fun and use a kite too; check out the ozone web site for a look at snowkiting, should be out snowkiting in teign this coming season.

def agree with last post, do as much as you can even if on a dry slope, i did dry sloping for about six months before i hit the snow ( this was about ten years ago!) and boy did it pay off, snow is a lot different but the experience you wil gain is invaluable, just be a bit careful as al says, get yourself some protective gear and some padding for your arse as it wil get bruised!
