Hello
Jen - 9-1-2004 at 09:04

Hi all

Just thought I'd say a quick hello and introduce myself. I live in Bath with Wes(you may know him from postings on this site) and like him took up windsurfing getting on for three years ago...however, several injuries later (non-windsurfing related) means that I am still a virtual beginner But this year I'm hoping to be able to get in the foot straps and harness. We also get down to deepest Cornwall for at least a week a year (not nearly as often as we'd like) for a bit of windsurfing, boogie boarding and maybe this year some surfing......

Looking forward to reading (and hopefully contributing) to these forums and I can't wait till that sea is a little bit warmer...cos I'm a complete girly wuss and would rather sit in the van and watch Wes freeze his ass off.

Hi Jen,

Looks like I need to behave from now on, you've started checking up on me.

Now I know how Al feels. (Hi Anna!

Hi Jen - welcome to the FON club .... if you've got time to waste you're in the right place.

Wes - you've not been feeling Al again have you? Perhaps you should change to the happy banana Avatar too?!

Cheers

Nick (still not gay ... no honestly)

Hi Jen....

Hope you manage to get on with the windsurfing this year... You never know you might even get better than Wes if you lay claim to the Techno that is rightfully yours whenever the wind is just right for it!

I think you should set a date for when you'll get back on the water though otherwise you'll just continue to be a 'complete girly wuss' waiting for it to get warm enough.... If you're anything like Anna, it'll never get warm enough in this country.

So come on then, when will you get out on the water??... Maybe on the first F-O-N meeting of the year around the end of March sometime??

Al.

Jen - 10-1-2004 at 11:29

I'm thinking that if I leave it till March then that will be a bit chicken of me! But then again, I do tend to spend most of the time in the water than out when windsurfing so maybe I'll just be chicken for a bit longer.......
But it looks like we may be travelling to the coast tomorrow...maybe I'll get out for a bit....well, a couple of minutes at least

zelwaters - 30-1-2004 at 22:20

Hey jen, my name's zel, nice to see some more girlies. (no offence guys), Get your feet wet, you 'll need to build your stamina for the water, if ur plannin on gettin wet at the bash, water is freezin in march!

i had a go last week and could only hack the water for about 45 mins, thats with a 3mm full suit on!

anyway welcome to the crowd!

badexcuseforasailor - 30-1-2004 at 22:55

3mm suit this time of year but being a bloke I guess theres bits that we have to keep warm or things could be measured in mm
I still in winter suit up til May time, the joys of inland sailing

3mm suit at this time of year!!!! You must have been freezing. I use a 6/5/4mm semi-dry suit at this time of year, usually with a 1mm rashvest and a 2mm hodded vest underneath it.... I'm never even a little bit cold though and can stay out for hours.

I think you're gonna need a better suit Zelwaters. Mind you, being of the fairer sex I guess theres always plenty of 'knights in shining armour' around to offer you warm cups of tea etc, when you get out of the water!!

Seriously though. A 3mm suit at this time of year isn't sufficient, and could quickly lead to hypothermia... Be carfeul out there.

Thing to remember is that if something goes wrong, you could end up with a long swim. If you were cold out there to start with, then you may not have long enough left to get back to safety before hypothermia sets in. Its best to make sure you are warm all the time.

And here endeth Al's Sunday lecture!!!

hey, yeah your totally right il have to get a steamer or something, thankyou for the word of warning, its sometimes easy to forget the reality of being out in the water this time of year!

Angry_Apple - 1-2-2004 at 21:51

Hi there Jen,
welcome to F-O-N (forces of nature) and I agree with Zel, we do need some extra gals to even the scales a bit..

Cheers for the welcome everyone, and no, I still haven't got my feet wet this year....unless you count the swimming pool, thought I'd better get some swimming training in....I know I'm going to be doing lots of it when I hit the sea

I have a 5mm winter suit, it's just that I'm well...how can I put this...chicken! Haven't been windsurfing since last June and a bit nervous about getting back on the board! I have no excuses really...there's a nice warm van to get changed in and Wes to make me hot drinks .......

Wes - 2-2-2004 at 20:26

Yep, my famous 17 sugars tea, thick enough to stand a spoon up in.......

Jen - 6-2-2004 at 08:11

Yes, wes.....you know when I said I didn't like tea...now you know why at least you make a decent coffee!

zelwaters - 6-2-2004 at 08:22

At least your bo makes you tea, its hard to get mine off the computer, well saying that all i have to say is wind and he turns around!

Wes - 6-2-2004 at 12:20

I normally find "stop looking at porn" makes me turn around so fast I get whiplash!

zelwaters - 10-2-2004 at 18:56

bless, that works too
