Injuries

What a bad day yesterday
Went for a sail at Weston - first chance to sail in ages, anyway, as i rigged up a gust took my sail, I jumped out of the back of the van to catch it and tore my achilles tendon OUCH!!.

The quack tells me that it will take months to get back on the board.

Has anyone had any experience of this injury and recovery times etc?

Ouch... that doesn't sound too good, especially doing it before even getting on the water.

Don't know about that injury specifically, but its usually best to leave these things for a few weeks after they 'feel' as though they have healed otherwise you'll end up tearing it again and will be back to square one.

Mind you, it was awfully kind of you to do this for us, as no doubt there will now be six weeks of perfect uninterrupted wind whilst you're off the water with your injury.... Nice one!!!

Hope its all OK soon and you're back out on the water.

Al.

Al thanks for your kind words.

The quack thinks it will be more like six to eight months of perfect wind.

Enjoy

AAArrrgh..... I bet that hurt!

I'm sure you'll be up and in the sea before you know it!

6-8 months! You must be gutted.

Sorry to hear that, I always said WSM was a nasty place!

I afraid I cant blame weston much as I'd like to, I never got on the water

On a positive note, I have a new north XT extention waiting to be collected at windy world, that would have been a £110 pound ornament, and I don't think my wife would appreciate the asthetic beauty when it was placed on the mantlepeice.

Must ring neil to tell him to hold on to it for a few months

Spencer - 30-4-2004 at 16:56

why's wsm so bad then Wes?
Sorry to hear bout the injurie Grip...hope its a Speedy recovery.

Wes - 1-5-2004 at 10:42

To be honest the only thing I dislike about WSM is the colour of the water!

Oh, and the way the way that there is never the right combination of wind, tide and work for me to get a sail there!

Sorry to hear about the achilies tendon.... definately a big ouch! Happened to a mate of mine a few years ago and took him 3 months to get 'back in the saddle' But I guess it's an individual thing.... He was put in a cast for the first month and had to get an automatic car so he could get around!

Take care...

Hans.

Talking of injuries, has anyone seen Dazzamuffin (Darren) lately... I haven't seen him down here for ages.

Let us know how the healing process goes griptool, we hope you're back on the water sooner than expected.

6-8 months!! rubbish! I'm not a physio but as a runner I've come across plenty of people with Achilles problems and it doesn't take them that long.

Even if he's a mate I'd suggest a second opinion and definitely from someone who does sport themself - in any case you should be able to get a free referral to a physio who will be better informed than a GP for this sort of thing (respek to GPs but they are generalists not specialists).

The dude that gave me the 6 month date was a orthopedic consultant who, allegedly knows what he's talking about, however, I guess recovery time is governed by how much you are willing to risk a re rupture. He tells me that full strength is acheive after about 18 Months, I cannot afford a re occurance as I run my own business and being on crutches is not good for business.

I will see a sports physio when I'm out of plaster and hope to be back on the water by the end of september, fingers crossed.

Anyway hope the sea breeze kicks in soon so I can go and watch

The leg brace came off thursday and I am now walking sort of (joy)
There is a large backlog of DIY to cope with now (Double joy).

I hope to be back on board soon maybe end of september to get some use out of my summer suit
