New Beachguide Section
justal - 28-4-2004 at 06:46

Many of you will now know that I've been working long and hard on a new beachguide section for the Forces-of-Nature site and its now nearing completion.

Its now time to 'semi-release' it and let forum visitors see it, give their feedback and start adding entries for as many locations as you can.

Click Here To See the NEW BEACHGUIDE

So far, it allows you to browse through the beaches within particular regions, submit new beach listings, and post comments and photos for beaches that are already listed.

It's not finished yet, so until then the old beachguide with will be available in the normal place. As far as the new one goes I still have to draw most of the maps for the regions (but these will be easier to do once some listings have been added so that I can include the beach locations on the map).

Theres also a simple search facility based on beach name, but I shall add an advanced search facility so that you can find all those beaches in a particular region (or all regions) that are good for a particular sport in a particular wind direction etc etc. (Once I've worked out how to do it!)

I shall also add a feature that allows you to find all the diary entries from a particular location too.

To make it a worthwhile addition to the site we need YOU to add some listings for your favourite beaches (and inland locations). Try to make the submissions as detailed as possible and include general information for 'normal' holidaymakers as well as windsurfers / kitesurfer / surfers etc.

Check it out, let me know what you think and if you come across any errors and get submitting locations.

Cheers.

Al.

Thats the buisness Al!

Hopefully we'll all start to discover beaches that we otherwise didn't know were there!

I'm impressed!

Neil.... You can't save a 'half finished' report, I didn't realise it would take you that long to write one!!

I have approved your Benllech entry though and it is now there in all its glory... It seemed pretty much finished to me.

I've now tarted up a few things in the beachguide, so if you find any problems let me know.... I still have a few bits and pieces to add to it, but I've linked it properly from the rest of the site now.

There are now 91 beaches listed, but as it looks as though there won't be any wind this weekend I'll probably add some more listings for the areas I know (Wales, Bristol Channel, North Devon, Outer Hebrides and a few South Coast places)... In the meantime get adding more, especially from all the other regions that I've never been to.

Neil (and anyone else)

If you only get halfway through a report, submit it with a note saying that its unfinished and then submit the other half at a later date making it clear that it goes with the first half and I will join it all together for you.... Sound fair??

There are now 138 beaches listed.....and counting!!

Don't forget to add you own comments about any of the beaches listed, even if it's only to say you had a particularly good / bad day there. The idea is that the comments will come from people of varying abilities who are into different types of things, so will provide a more rounded picture of what each beach has to offer and also give an idea of the varying conditions at the beach.

Blimey Al - you have been busy - I was just about to submit a few beach reviews and they're all (except a couple, which I shall put on this morning....) reviewed already!! I take it anything else I know about the places that are on already should be submitted as a comment?
It's looking fantabulous by the way - very handy..

leonardo - 5-5-2004 at 10:36

Justal - All credit to ya regarding the beach guide section > it is super user-friendly and most definitely the best beach guide i have seen in the country! Well done mate.

justal - 5-5-2004 at 12:13

Cool... glad you like it...

Yeah Shawn, just submit comments if the beach is already listed... If the info then needs to go into the main description or any of the main description details need changing I can do that.

Still got some work to do on it, but I'm getting there. Trouble is its windy at the mo so I have more important things to do!!

Hi Al,

You want me to do a review of the campsite I was staying at?? I can also do a review of Queen Mary Reservoir in London if you want it??? And possible give some information on Queen Mother Reservoir at Datchet as well that I have visited a few times.

Let me know.

Cheers, Paul.

justal - 5-5-2004 at 16:03

Yeah, go for it with the reservoirs.

Did you have a good time here??

Al.

Bananaman - 5-5-2004 at 17:08

Yes had a great time in the pub. Just joking. Was well impressed by the beach and the estuary area even if I didnt get in the water there is was fun playing. Shem did a good job as well TRYING to teach me to kitesurf on the lagoon lol, though I'm sure it will come to me in the end. Campsite wasn't bad even though the rain did piss me of somewhat on Monday night. Will defo be back again for the next BBQ/piss up and probably before that. Oh I sent you a mail about your kite by the way.

Oh - hi to Stevebus and Niell as well and you did a good job at leading me astray. Oh - watch out, those sharks bite you know but not as much as those crabs eh Shem.

See ya all soon

justal - 22-5-2004 at 06:03

Theres now over 180 beaches listed.... We still need some descriptions for beaches in the SE and along the East Coast though as I don't know these areas...

I'll get around to doing some Cornish entries soon, but if you know the beaches there feel free to submit descriptions as well.

Al.

justal - 15-6-2004 at 06:41

192 beaches now listed... Come on, lets get it to 200!

Theres some good photos in there too...Thanks to all those who have submitted listings / photos so far.

Al.

leonardo - 17-8-2004 at 13:03

Justal u R the MAN.. This must be the current best beach report/survey online

justal - 17-8-2004 at 13:19

206 beaches now listed... And lots of new photos from kelvin and IainO.. Nice one guys.

There are still some regions without many listings though, someone must know aomething about the beaches in these regions. I could add the Cornish beahces, but its been a while since I was there so I was hoping for some more up to date info...

Also there are plenty of people posting diary entries from places not listed, so they must know something about the beaches they are using... Come on, tell us all about them by submitting an entry to the beachguides!

I've been to porthmeor beach (st.ives) in Cornwall i could do that...it would be nice to see some beaches near east anglia, you know the sewage filled beaches and we can't forget skeggy...the waves aren't brill but someone must have dared to venture out there! It's the closest i live to a coast

I might be able to add some more beaches if i think about it.
