BST Bash Aftermath - May Day Holiday
ajdesq - 3-3-2004 at 19:33

I can't make the BST bash

Hmph.

However, I'm going up to Borth for the May Day holiday. I have a kiting lesson from Shem on the Friday, then a couple of days free to play.

I'll probably be camping at the farm a few miles away - no facilities but stunning views.

If anyone else is going to be around that weekend let me know.

Cheers, Andrew

Bananaman - 3-3-2004 at 21:23

hey hey I'm booking up with Shem to do his 3 day kiting course starting the day after yours i.e. the saturday. I'm also camping so maybe I'll get the same place where u r camping. I'm gonna be there all the following week as well just practisin my newly found talent hehe I'll also be bringin my windsurf kit of course. I've never been to Borth so it would be great to meet up.

justal - 4-3-2004 at 06:53

I'll be there as well..... But that goes without saying really!

Al.

AndyW - 4-3-2004 at 12:30

Andy

zelwaters - 4-3-2004 at 12:35

Bananaman - 4-3-2004 at 12:45

I think they do all sorts but I'm pre-booked up for the 3 day kitesurfin course as I've never done it before. Check out their website on www.kitesurfwales.co.uk its got all the info there.

justanna - 4-3-2004 at 12:46

Check out Shem's website

www.kitesurfwales.co.uk

Shameless plug I know but since Al built the site I think it's allowed

zelwaters - 4-3-2004 at 12:51

justal - 29-3-2004 at 18:51

Looks as though a few people are going to be around for the May Day weekend, so if theres wind forecast we should try to make a thing of it again... Most people I spoke to last weekend were keen to come back to Borth again soon, so May Day could be a good idea???

Of course, those who can will be back before then if there is any wind forecast!!

Who's gonna be up for it?? Unfortunately once again I won't be able to promise wind, but we can't get any less than we had this time!!

Al.

badexcuseforasailor - 29-3-2004 at 20:06

Can't make this one as I travel back from Dahab on the Saunday night bit far to Borth for one day and the water will be too cold after egypt!

Dave - 30-3-2004 at 12:49

I'll be there, hoping we can get wet this time.

Jonny - 30-3-2004 at 12:55

I'l be definately there this time as im back in Aber. Il be looking forward to it.

justal - 8-4-2004 at 18:40

Don't want to jinx the wind for this 'event', but if there are enough people around, we'll organise a BBQ on the beach again..... Although, hopefully it'll be so windy that we'll have to do the BBQ in the shelter of the dunes!!!... At least we can't have any less wind than last time.

Let us know here if you'll be coming.

Al.

Bananaman - 8-4-2004 at 19:04

Kitesurfing/windsurfing/bbq/beer. Sounds awesome. Can't wait already.

ajdesq - 16-4-2004 at 21:38

My dentist has just cancelled on me (isn't it meant to be the other way around?) so will be there Thursday morning. Hoo-rah!

PaulF - 21-4-2004 at 00:44

. . . you don't succeed (in finding any wind at the last Bash!), try & try again!

If there is another one on May Day weekend, then my Babe (Raven33) & I may well be over again, in her orange VeeDub Camper. Friday evening onwards, I expect.

We have had some pretty good times on the water in the last month, but Borth looks so good to screech about at, it has to be done! And the BBQ sounds good.

So, if tides & wind are there, we should be!

Meantime, keep using & exercising them waves, guys.

PS I told a couple of mates who drive Mercedes about it, & they seemed keen - see pic!!

Wes - 21-4-2004 at 11:21

I fancy a long weekend away so as we get neared, if the wind is predicted I think I'll come over

justal - 25-4-2004 at 05:35

Well, I know we can't believe a thing that long range forecasts say, but at the moment they are forecasting around 20 knots WNW for next Saturday.... Time to start keeping an eye on it.

Tide times for the weekend at Borth are

Fri: HT 5.20 am and 6.10pm (3.7m small)
Sat: HT 6.15am and 6.50 pm (4.1m smallish)
Sun: HT 7.00am and 7.30 pm (4.5m)

WNW will see us sailing on the seafront though so those tides will be fine...We'll be able to get on the water early and not have to carry our kit too far down the beach, sail for 12 hours and not have to carry the kit too far back mup the beach ready for the BBQ either!

Al.

leonardo - 26-4-2004 at 08:52

Hey dudes, just wanna ask, is this sesh taking place at Ynaslas this w/e? BBQ'ing in the dunes? Wind blowing 20 knots approx? If so sounds SWEET! I'll be there early sat morning..

rob - 26-4-2004 at 10:34

hmmmmmm... i'm gliding fri and saturday and i have a medical back home on the tuesday... tough decision - do i drive back up for sunday and monday or stop at home and miss out on the beach?!? answers on a postcard please!

Wes - 26-4-2004 at 11:16

Rob - Gliding? please explain, could have a common interest here........

I'm in total confusion about the weekend. I really want to come up to Borth, but need to pick up the 8.0 from the south caost (Poole) to make sure that there are more than force 3 winds However, can't get any time off work, and can only head south when I should be on my way to Borth. Might have a headache on Wednesday afternoon to pick it up........

rob - 26-4-2004 at 11:55

u2u'd u wes!

justal - 26-4-2004 at 17:20

Winds aren't looking that great for the weekend yet.... But theres still time for that to change and theres always the BBQ and Beer to look forward to anyway!

Al.

justal - 27-4-2004 at 06:15

I know it sort of depends on the weather, but should we do the BBQ on the Saturday or the Sunday? I take it most people will be staying in Borth for the Monday as well??

Wes, how's your headache coming along!!?

Al.

ajdesq - 27-4-2004 at 07:28

Al, stop fretting and just CHILL!!! We can decide on Saturday if we want to barbie on Saturday, Sunday, or even both! Just get on with organising the wind! But for the record, I'll be heading back sometime Monday so either is fine.

Wes - 27-4-2004 at 11:17

Regretfully the head is fine. There is just too much to do to skive. I'm stuck going south at the start of the weekend, but I think I can do this on Friday afternoon. So, all is not yet lost. Its all going to depend on those forecasts again! I am yet again going to have to head to the windiest place (Between Borth and staying on the south coast) for the weekend, I don't get out often enough to miss the best conditions! However, after chatting to Rob, if it looks like good flying weather, then I've arranged to go fly gliders - that should't mess with any windsurfing so it'll be OK............

Wes - 27-4-2004 at 11:27

Oh, and what is the best wind forcast for Borth?

justal - 27-4-2004 at 18:11

Just Chill???... You gotta be joking I've just spent ALL day at work overlooking the sea whilst there was blazing sunshine and a steady Force 6 blowing... Grrrrr, Grrrrr, Grrrrrr!!!

Then come 6.30 when I finished the wind finished too... Grrrr again.

Al

rob - 27-4-2004 at 21:01

let us know how you get on wes, should you decide to do the right thing and go gliding!! (and don't forget you can add a diary entry for it now too!)

Wes - 28-4-2004 at 11:04

Ouch ouch ouch, oohh the pain......

That head is hurting - looks like I'm finishing early tomorrow to go and pick up the sail! Should be on to the south coast by 3(ish) and it could well be windy as well! Didn't sway me at all honest!
So, now all I have to do is go to the best weather on Friday afternoon (I know, I'm slack....) so, whats the Borth forcast?

Wes

justal - 28-4-2004 at 21:20

Certain forecasts are now showing some wind for the weekend.... Shhhh or it will go away again!!!

N-NE Force 4-5 is forecast at the mo.

Al.

raven22 - 29-4-2004 at 12:26

Not sure if me and PaulF will be there as we might head off to the Big Bang at Santa Pod. How many will be staying in the dunes? If we come along then we will be there friday night in my orange van. Wind does seem to be promising though...

Let me know what the verdict is as we don't want to be the billy-no-mates again.

Em.

leonardo - 29-4-2004 at 13:31

wind is looking very non-existant for the weekend...only place with some wind seems to be Broad Haven, and I ain't driving all the way there!!! Whats the score Al? anybody have a detailed forecast for fri-sun?

dunk - 29-4-2004 at 14:22

I won't be there till about lunch time sat now as I've got to pick up my van. Save some wind for me!!!!!!

Spencer - 29-4-2004 at 14:39

i gotta work this w/end .So there will probably be a bit of wind about....

raven22 - 29-4-2004 at 19:22

Right!!! Me and PaulF have made a decision... We are going to take a gamble on the wind and will be in the car park tomorrow night. Looks like the wind isn't a definate but if there is any anywhere then it will be there (I hope!).

Anyway, if anybody is around and are up for a drinking/bbq sesh on Sat night then PLEASE come and find us or we will sulk (I will anyway).

Em

justal - 29-4-2004 at 19:31

We'll see you there...

There was plenty of wind here today, so lets hope it lasts.

Forecasts are saying quite a bit tomorrow (Friday) especially as its NE so the estuary should be working well, but much less on Saturday (10-12 knots), followed by even less on Sunday.... It could still all change though.

Al.

stevebus - 29-4-2004 at 20:12

it looks like we'll b around too, at the mo it looks like we'll b down on the friday nite,
And were always up for a bbq and beer, but u already know that dont u Al :-)

justal - 29-4-2004 at 21:02

Uh oh... hide your beers, Ann is on her way!!!!

Al.

Wes - 30-4-2004 at 11:49

Not looking promising from where I'm sat, I'm fed up of no wind at the weekends! I'll keep looking at forscasts and if it says its going to get good, I'm on my way......

justal - 3-5-2004 at 18:15

Well, in the end Saturday and Sunday weren't great. A few people got on the water or flew kites on the land, but I didn't bother.

Monday was nice though with a decent steady wind and gorgeous sunshine. Just enough wind with a 6.3m sail, and then I went kitesurfing, as did everyone else by the seems of it... It was pretty busy here.

Al.

leonardo - 4-5-2004 at 06:14

GUTTED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I was over for the Sat when the wind was playing with us (especially Snowboard) all day long!! Also tweaked me back and couldn't do much sunday + Monday...was watching rugby all day monday whilst you blokes were styling in the sun all day monday.

Will have to wait for next time.

dunk - 4-5-2004 at 10:38

Monday was well worth the drive over. Powered on my 16 in the sunshine. Never seen so many kites at borth though. Hope you all had fun!

PaulF - 5-5-2004 at 11:01

Raven22 & I had a good time on the water on Saturday, but even with my 10.5 sail I had to do a whole lotta pumping! It was good to chat with you like-minded wind-junkies, particularly Al!
We shot off to Tywyn & the narrow-gauge railway on Sun, then had to head back to Bolton for Monday. Glad those that stayed had a good time.

Now, Has anybody found my mast extension??? In a fit of stupidity, I left it on the verge while unrigging, next to where we parked the classic orange VW Camper.

It's an Arrows 40cm alloy extension; the downhaul rope is black, flecked with magenta. I'm hoping some kind soul has found it, & just needs my address to send it home!

If so, u2u me or Al for my address.

So, when will the next bash be??
