DaveH - 17-5-2007 at 03:50

Just wondering if anyone has any info on kiting in the Hebride's.

The locations look perfect for killer conditions.
Any help would be awesome. So far all i know is its gonna be a damn site colder than what i'm used too, and it gets windy.

Cheers
Dave.

Hi Again...

As well as knowing your old stomping ground of the Isle of Man, I spend wuite a bit of time in the Hebrides. usually the Outer hebrides with our favourites being the (VERY) exposed Uists, Berneray and Eriskay. Lewis and Harris have som excellent beaches for Forces-of-Nature' style activities too, but there were a few too many people around for my liking so they don't feel quite so 'Hebridean'. They are also pretty big so hopping from one side of the island to the other isn't as easy.

I've just got back from a trip to the Inner Hebrides as well, Arran wasn't great for FON sprots, but was still a nice place to visit. Islay was good however. Lots of surf (even when I didn't expect it) on the exposed and slightly wild W coast and some great windsurfing / kitesurfing locations in Loch Indaal and at Laggan Bay... Oh and more whisky distilleries than I care to mention!!

Get yourself yourself out to the islands, you won't be disappointed.

cheers for the info.
Just what i was looking for. Think I'll definitely plan a trip there.
Sounds like just what I'm after.

The whiskey distilleries will definitely keep my buddies happy when the conditions are not upto much.

Its not so cold ! There is a good few places in North Uist for flat water and surf. Al has been up before. You would get away with a shortie at the moment, its too hot for a fuul suit...

We're not all as hard as you Angus.... And Dave has been living in the Caribbean so I'm sure he'll be needing a full suit. I'd always recommend everyone taking a full suit if they are going to the Hebrides, even in the height of summer... You're OK as you are acclimatised to it, but it is a fair bit colder than it is here, and we still need a full suit here on some days.
