Barmouth

I'll be there next week with my Windsurfing kit within, a stones throw of the sea.

Anyone been there / sailed there ?

It looks ok on Google earth, but I was wondering...
Is it safe to sail across/around the river mouth during mid tide ?
I suspect if there are any waves, they may be in that area.

Any other info ?
Anywhere worth the extra hassle of driving somewhere to sail ?

Barmouth is excellent, if there's wind you should have a great time there. I haven't sailed there for years, but have always in the past launched from the seafront on the m ain beach to the nort of the river. That way there isn't a problem with the currents from the rivermouth.

As far as sailing in the river mouth, then there isn't really that much room there so you are better off sailing from the beach to the north. I guess you could sail there at high tide but I would imagine the currents could get quite strong at mid tide, so the usual safety warnings apply.

You'll have cleaner wind and more fun off the beach though!

Al.
