Gutted!

Well, I'm gutted, our baby decided to be sick all through Friday night, so I didn't get to come down and it sounds like I missed out on a good weekend.

Oh well, maybe next time!

If it makes you feel better the windsurfing was better than the surfing would of been.
Hope the little ones better

BEFS is right, the surf was crap. it was only small and very messy. The winds were NW and we never get any surf here in NW winds, so as a surfer you didn't miss much.

A couple od guys did turn up to surf (Micky Skinner and pals). We didn't see them out on the water as they were further down the beach. They seemed to enjoy it, but it was their first attempt at surfing, so its diffiuclt not to enjoy it really, whatever the conditions.

Lets hope you can make it next time.

Al.

Thanks guys - I'm sure I'd have enjoyed it even if I didn't get in the water - sounds like there were lots of people about!

Also I enjoy watching a good windsurf session so I'm still gutted!

Quote from above;

I know it's a typo, but is it meant to be ' of ' or ' odd '!

Al's right though, it was great getting out and trying our new kit but the surf was pretty crap, really windy Saturday with an extremely strong side current and tightly packed sets and still on Sunday with no power even to bellyboard in!

We got to practice paddling out, diving through waves and a few other things, but the boards we have are to small to begin on, so next time we will have to look at getting 7'6 MiniMals or something.

We are looking to try all different places each weekend we go away. Do you have any suggestions as to good, regular surf spots for beginners around the country?

Micky

P.S

We came up to the top end beach around midday but didn't see anyone, so went back to by the youth hostel. We had to leave around 4.00pm but I did notice two Kite Surfers at that end, was that you guys?

Micky -

Go to www.beachwizard.com, this has loads of reviews and photos from people who have actually surfed the breaks.

The problem we've got is that everywhere is so bleedin far away! The closest break is Bournemouth which takes 2 hours to get to but gets crowded if it's any good.

If you check out http://www.a1surf.com/surfcheck-sw-forecast.html there are loads of webcams showing surf conditions - Boscombe is slightly better that Bournemouth (less crowded) and there's talk of an artificial reef going in this winter (although I'm sceptical).

How long did it take you to get to Borth in the end?

7'6 is a good size - there was one for sale on this site, don't know if it's still there but it was brand new and reasonably priced.

Saunton Sands in N Devon is pretty good for beginners, slow waves, big beach (really hard to catch waves on a shortboard here though, mini-mals a minimum really). Once you get them though the rides can be really long.

Cheers Mate,

Just tried to get hold of you in the chat room but I wasn't showing up as being present?

Anyway, it took us 2 & 1/2 hours to get to Borth on Saturday morning which I thought was pretty good going, but about 3 & 1/4 hours to get back (big slow Mercades vans and written off Alfa's to blame!)

I'll check out these links and let you know how I get on

Micky

I was just looking on Beachwizard and Rest bay in South Wales looks like it has some good waves, but I'm a bit dubious about water quality around there!
