Which Mast?

Hi guys,
I've been ringing around all the shops trying to find a quality used mast (460cm). The 2 masts that sound good are a Pryde X3 from Riks and a Dynafibre Carbon 75 from Solentsailboards. Is there anything I should look out for when buying a used mast? What mast would you go for? I have £100 to spend...

Difficult thing to buy second had - as long as they look ok i.e. no nicks, scratches and the like, then they are probably OK. However, they could well be mashed and about to break without any visible damage.
Having said that, I've bought 3 second hand, and no probs so far. Sorry, don't know the models so can't comment on the choice.

I have always had great service from Riks. Highly reccomend them from that point of view.

I agree with Wes that Riks give good service. If they say its in good condition then you'll probably be ok.

I bought a 520 from them second hand for £150.00 and it had only been rigged in their wearhouse, never actually used!

Good luck,

Andy

they always say don't buy second hand booms and masts, but you'd have to be unlucky to get a real turkey. I've also bought an ex-display 460 from Riks and it was better than he described it - he's top for service and advice, just a shame he doesn't do all brands. I've also had a very cheap ex-rental Neil Pryde mast from the Canaries and that lasted for 3 years or so before breaking, so I'd reckon you won't go wrong with a 2nd hand one at Riks.

Well, I have decided to go with Riks but not second hand, I've ordered a Pacific Carbon 15 460. Its very cheap and I just can't justify spending £200+ on a mast at this moment in time. I'm sure it will do me just fine for blasting and to get back into the sport. I've also ordered a board from Whitstable windsurfing. Its a 01' Starboard 284 custom slalom/race. I can't wait for my toys to arrive!!!!!
