Rocket fish

Hey all,

Anyone got any experience with the '05 North rocketfish strapped surfboard? Its 160ish x 43. I think thats about 5ft3"

I'm considering a fish for light wind days with the Sonic and general wave type tom foolery. There's a few of the above floating about secondhand, worth picking up?

Any other suggestions welcome. To compliment a 125 litewave 11m Sonic, weight approx 75-80kgs depending upon pie intake and mountain biking done............

Dont bother with the rocket fish. I found it had all the negative sides of riding a surf board, but missed out on most of the positive sides. If you want a board that rides like a surf board, then get a real one! If you want straps, theyre easy to fit. As a good all rounder look for something close to 6 foot. As far as kite specific surf boards go, Id look for the airush or slingshot versions.

Whats up with the Rocket fish then Shem? What are the disavantages?

How do I go about retro fitting straps to a standard board, glass them in? Could be a bugger if you don't get them in the right place!! Sounds like a acheaper option though.

I got myself a cheap Naish directional £150 brand new, but to tell you the truth, I never use it, I don't seem to go any earlier than on my TT. Maybe I'll try it again this summer.

Thats because theres way to much rocker on the naish, Dunk. A surf board is much flatter, so it planes earlier. It also keeps them planning better and faster. In contrast the naish board is designed for more powerfull surf, and therefore wants to be slowed down, allowing you to control the board in faster conditions, so by adding extra rocker it makes it more controlable, and helps in chop.

The rocket fish doesnt plane as early as a surf board, which is a major disadvantage, and it just doesnt fel like a surf board when u ride it. It proberly costs 3-4 times as much as well.

Retro fitting straps is easy, Ill explane when I see you next.
