BA's new baggage policy

Hi peeps,

Just got an email from BA telling me about their new baggage policy.

The worst news is that the maximum bag weight is dropping from 32kg to 23kg. And of course they're tightening up excess baggage payments. Hey ho!

There's more to life than KITESURFING!

Let me know when you find it.

at least you can carry a sports bag on for free over and above your normal allowance:
"Passengers will be able to carry one piece of sporting equipment free of charge in addition to their checked baggage allowance."

and if flying via USA to anywhere you can still take 2 bags:
"World Traveller passengers travelling to or from the US...will continue to be allowed two checked bags in line with the local government regulations."

When we went to NZ recently we took 3 bags (including my kites & board) weighing about 65kg in total - came back with 5 totalling 110kg!! Got back to the car and almost couldn't fit it in

Yep - I work in the industry and put a post on here a few months ago saying the writing's on the wall.

They've come unstuck with Fuel surcharges so next thing to hit is baggage. Just another way of genrating revenue and hitting the traveller with hidden costs at the airport.

It's interesting that the low-costs (Ryanair etc) have increased the wieght of hand luggage - clever cuz it means the passenger carries more themselves and reduces the time taken to load the hold.

It'll be interesting to see what the charter airlines do e.g. Excel etc. In may we managed to get all our gear into Egypt with no hassles. I suppose at the end of the day it depends whether the check-in agent can be "bovered" !!

All good fun !!
