Hi Rosie

Although I've never been to Tariffa, I hear that the waters are overcrowded and that it is risky leaving your kit in your car. That said, wouldn't want to put a damper on your plans. Give Waveriders a shout.

Cheap trips to Egypt, good wind, instructors, rescue, flat uncrowded lagoons, kit hire and warm water

I've been twice this year, you'll meet like minded people, and wont spend much $$$ if you take your own kit. It has a very relaxed atmosphere but if you go on your own, you may find that you have droves of egyptian men trying to marry you for a visa!! good luck an have fun

Cheers for the advice, I've been out with Waveriders to Safaga and to Ras Sudr and they are ace people - fantastic egyptian helpers too... and both times was on my own and yes both times had to put up with dodgy proposals!!!

Flights looking bit tricky for Egypt and apparently wind too strong in Tarifa for someone learning to stay on the board... maybe Wales??

Maybe I should ask people on here to vote and I'll go wherever gets the most tips... lol

You'd be made very welcome at Aberdovey and there's one or two instructors about who'd be more than happy to give you any pointers.

If you haven't been, I personally rate this part of the UK as one of the best for Kitesurfing. Hands down probably the best....

No prob Rosie.

Well I,d vote that you get yourself up to Aberdovey, flat lagoons and waves, friendly bunch and always someone prepaired to launch you or give you a few hints. Although I think that a few ov d'massif/pikies may be off to cornwall that weekend.

Keep an eye on the posts, someone is usually up there.

Drop shem a u2u and see what his availability is for a lesson.

Maybe catch you about

If theres wind theres always some one around at Aberdyfi. Weekends are getting steadily busier as well, there always seems to be over 10 out now. The lagoons work between low and mid tide generally, so as far as weekends, every other weekend will be ideal for mid day riding. Give me a call any time, if you want to check out specific dates.

Cheers

Just looked at a map - lucky I like driving!! Cornwall is also an option actually, been seeing a lot of the south/ east coast and quite fancy a bit of west country.

Going to have a look online and see if could get myself somewhere sunny AND windy, if not will settle for windy so yes maybe see you on a beach somewhere! I am the one who looks a bit lost and is working out which line goes where with a big grin on my face.

PS Is Aberdovy near Rhos Neiger?

Look at the w coast of wales about 10 miles north of Aberystwyth, there is an estury mouth. Aberdovey is the town on the north shore of the estury. Once in dyfi, drive through the town, half a mile towards Towyn, there is a layby on the right hand side, park and walk 200 yds across the golf course.

You'll want to check out the tide tables so as to avoid high tide, the lagoons start to form about an hour after high tide.

Closer than you are now! But still about an hour or so away.

See you on the beach.

borth is best ! LOL

head for borth ( ynslas ) but dovey is a 'nicer' place if there is no wind.

but either side is great, i am a recent convert having only 'discovered' it myself 2 weeks ago.

give it a try, egypt may be warmer, but wales is closer !

that said, it will probably take you 5 hours to drive to from london so a flight to egypt may actually by faster ! LOL

Ahh....d'massif,d'pikeys.... which side is best.... Well theres no subtitute for those long summer evenings, vans as far as the eye can see with d'massif stood around an open fire watchin the sun set with a beer an a barby coupled with frivolous chitchat about the days activities...or those long cool autumn and winter sessions in the Dovey hotel...Thems thare pikeys may say a reasonable excuse to keep yourselves warm, but more likely an excuse to sample the fine ales on offer, an the chance to listen to a sailors tail of reef girls a plenty spotted on yonder shore...

d'pikeys/massif are one tribe separated by an expance of water, bridged by the westerly an the kiteboard...

No competition...just oneness

Oooh Jon - you're coming over all poetic there...

But you're right, both venues have their own charms, and I for one will keep alternating - depending on my mood, the weather and the company.

We're so lucky to have the choice of 2 such sweet spots!!
