Scheduled Weather Station Overhaul

There have been a few issues with the weather station over the past few days. The ISS has been a bit intermittent and hasn't been sending data properly in the mornings. Sounds as though the Super Capacitor in the Integrated Sensor Suite may be failing and therefore needs replacing.

The rain gauge hasn't been working properly either so it looks as though a new reed switch is needed.

I'm therefore going to send it off for a complete overhaul and get these various repairs done all at the same time.

I'm just waiting for a date to send it off but it will be offline for a few days whilst the repairs are taken car of. Hopefully it will return fresh and new and ready for many years more reliable service.

I'll let you know when it gets sent off and how the repairs go.

Al.

Lisa,
My plan was to pack it up tomorrow and then send it off on Monday - not sure therefore if it will be back in time for the Bank Holiday.

I guess I could leave sending it off it until after the Bank Holiday, but then we'll be risking it not working for the BH anyway as it keeps failing over night at the moment and then starts working again later in the day. If it gets worse it might not come back on during the day..

Shall we risk it and leave it until after the BH weekend?

Al.

Actually, now that you've reminded me that its a Bank Holiday weekend, I think I'll leave it until the Tuesday after to send it off so that it isn't sat in a Post Office depot somewhere for longer than it needs to be.

With the current forecast it looks as though we have had the wind for a while Though there might be enough for a kite.

When were you out yesterday Al?

I've just taken the weather station down off it's mounting pole and will send it off today for a service and overhaul.

I've had a report from the engineers and a quote for the work. As predicted it did indeed need a new reed switch for the rain gauge and a new super capacitor for the Integrated Sensor Suite.

I've paid for the repairs and they are working on it now so hopefully it will be back and fully functional soon.

I chased up the weather station earlier today and apparently it has been serviced and is on it's way back. It was sent 'late last week' so should be with me anytime now.

Yep, they tried to deliver it on Friday but I was out of the house, so hopefully I'll get it on Monday.

And it's back up and running at last - don't know why it took them so long to fix it, I thnk they fixed it and then forgot to actually send it back to me. Ut then came via a courier company that I always have problems with so took ages to be actually delivered as well, but I received it in the end today and have just spent a few hours reinstalling it and getting it back up and running.

There were of course a few things to troubleshoot to get it all working again but I think ut is all up and running as it should be again. let's hope in its refurbished state it continues to provide a good service for years to come... Although something tells me I'll have to splash out around £800 on a new one sometime soon as this one is now 10 years old.

As always, let me know if you spot anything odd or not working.

Thanks,
Al.

Yep, I nearly got in yesterday as it was looking good all afternoon thanks to a fairly meaty sea breeze, but it had started to ease off by the time I got home so didn't bother as I knew it would just turn into one of those session where there wasn't enough wind, so instead I re-installed the weather station for you all!
